The UFC Power Rankings: Championship Edition

UFC-Champions-Rankings-with-Odds---Ronda-Rousey.ac

Today, we’re evaluating all the current UFC champions for a special power rankings feature. Our analysis answers one simple question: Who is the most dominant UFC champion today? This list measures how far ahead a champion is ahead of the pack in their respective division, and it’s not hard to guess who number one is.

No. 1: Ronda Rousey

Women’s Bantamweight Division

Next fight: UFC 193, Rousey -1500 vs. Holly Holm +900

The UFC’s biggest superstar also happens to be furthest ahead of her division. It’s not a question of whether she’ll win, but how quickly she’ll do so. Next up for Rowdy is undefeated former world champion boxer Holly Holm.

No. 2: Demetrious Johnson

Men’s Flyweight Division

Next fight: TBA

“Mighty Mouse” is facing the same problem as Rousey - there’s nobody in the division that seems to have a legitimate shot to beat him. His physical gifts and all-around skill has Johnson poised to rule for a while.

No. 3: T.J. Dillashaw

Men’s Bantamweight Division

Next fight: UFC Fight Night 81, Dillashaw -155 vs. Dominick Cruz +135

If Dillashaw can get through Dominick Cruz - and that’s a big if - it looks like clear sailing for the Team Alpha Male standout. He’s already talking superfights against top featherweights like Conor McGregor.

No. 4: Joanna Jedrzejcyzk

Women’s Strawweight Division

Next fight: UFC 193, Jedrzejcyk -1900 vs. Valerie Letourneau +1200

J-Check really has one credible threat to her title reign: Brazilian Claudia Gadelha. The first time these two faced off, many outlets scored the fight for Gadelha, but Joanna walked away with a razor-thin split decision. Hopefully we’ll see them in action sooner than later.

No. 5: Jose Aldo

Men’s Featherweight Division

Next Fight: UFC 194, Aldo +145 vs. Conor McGregor -175

This seems pretty low considering the guy has beaten everyone at 145, in some cases twice. But he’s the underdog going into a title unification bout with Irish superstar Conor McGregor, and that knocks him down a few pegs.

No. 6: Daniel Cormier

Men’s Light Heavyweight Division

Next Fight: TBA

Who is really a threat to Cormier now that he’s beaten by Gustaffson and Anthony Johnson? Jon Jones is still waiting to be reinstated, and top guys like Ryan Bader, Glover Teixeira and OSP really don’t seem like they could beat DC.

No. 7: Chris Weidman

Men’s Middleweight Division

Next Fight: UFC 194, Weidman -165 vs. Luke Rockhold +140

Weidman has got a tough top-5 to deal with, but he’d be the favorite against all of his biggest challengers. Ronaldo Souza, Yoel Romero and Luke Rockhold all fall just short to Weidman on paper. Of course, that’s just on paper.

No. 8: Rafael Dos Anjos

Men’s Lightweight Division

Next Fight: UFC on FOX 17, Dos Anjos -320 vs. Donald Cerrone +250

It’s tough to be the king of the UFC’s deepest division. He’s a big favorite against Cerrone, but should he beat Cowboy, he’s got killers like Khabib Nurmogomedov, Tony Ferduson,Benson Henderson and Eddie Alvarez to deal with.

No. 9: Fabricio Werdum

Men’s Heavyweight Division

Next Fight: Werdum +129 vs. Cain Velasquez -149

Oddsmakers already feel that Werdum won’t be able to repeat his career-defining win over Cain Velasquez. Even if he does, there’s the fact that he lost to Junior dos Santos and matches up poorly against Stipe Miocic.

No. 10: Robbie Lawler

Men’s Welterweight Division

Next Fight: UFC 195, Lawler -145 vs. Condit +115

I love Robbie Lawler. You love him too. Everybody loves him. But that doesn’t make up for the fact that he barely beat Johny Hendricks to claim the title and came within minutes of losing it to Rory MacDonald.
