UFC-198-prelims---Antonio-Rogerio-Nogueira.ac

The UFC is going all-out to make sure that this Saturday’s prelims are worth tuning into FOX Sports 1 for. With recognizable names, hot prospects and genuinely intriguing matchups, this is definitely one of the better appetizer courses the promotion has served up in a while.

Light Heavyweights

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira +210

Patrick Cummins -250

Over/under 1.5 rounds, over -270, under +225

It wouldn’t be a Brazil card without one of the famed Nogueira brothers. With Big ‘Nog retired, we’re down to Antonio Rogerio, who could soon follow suit. While Patrick Cummins is the younger, fresher favorite, in no way should Nogueira be counted out of this matchup. The Brazilian is a crafty, experienced vet with nearly three times as many fights as Cummins -- who is squarely a mid-level fighter in the division.

Welterweights

Bryan Barberena +463

Warlley Alves -600

Over/under 1.5 rounds, over -130, under +110

Barberena stopped the Sage Northcutt hype train, now it’s time to see if he can derail the undefeated Alves. The Brazilian is 10-0, having finished all but three of his opponents. More impressively, he has yet to lose inside the octagon in four appearances, and tallied submissions in three of those. Barberena was understandably hyped to beat Northcutt, but Alves is a far more dangerous opponent.

Middleweights

Thiago Santos +291

Nate Marquardt -351

Over/under 1.5, over -110, under -130

Marquardt has been around MMA a long time, most notably reigning as the Pancrase champion in the early 2000s and challenging Anderson Silva for the middleweight belt. He doesn’t have much left, so this could be the last time we see the respected vet inside the octagon. Let’s hope he avoids the fists of Thiago Santos, who is a power puncher with 7 KOs in 12 career wins.

Bantamweights

Rob Font -165

John Lineker +137

Over/under 1.5 rounds, over -130, under +110

Former flyweight contender John Lineker continues his foray into the bantamweight division in a matchup with Rob Font, who is 2-0 thus far in the UFC. This could serve as a coming out party for Font, who has been impressive since joining the promotion. While Lineker is an undersized 135er, his scalp carries name value for a new guy like Font trying to climb the ranks.

Welterweights

Luan Chagas +325

Sergio Moraes -400

Over/under , over , under

Luan Chagas steps in on extremely short notice against Sergio Moraes, who has won four straight inside the octagon. That win streak includes a submission victory over a top-10 fighter in Neil Magny. It’s tough to believe that Moraes only has 12 pro fights, considering how polished he looks. We don’t know much about Chagas, but it’s hard to have much faith in an untested fighter with basically no training camp.
