An exciting matchup on the FX part of the undercard at UFC 211 on May 13 has Chas Skelly taking on Jason Knight. These two have combined to win 33 fights in their career against only four losses. Skelly has gone 6-2 in the UFC, while Knight is 3-1. Both fighters are submission experts, so this should be decided on the mat. The matchup is so even that it would not be a surprise to see it go the distance.

Chas Skelly (17-2)
Skelly has only two losses in his career but both came in the UFC. He was beaten by Mirsad Bektic in 2014 but he rebounded to win his next four fights before losing to Darren Elkins in 2016. Skelly came back to defeat Maximo Blanco last year and Skelly is coming off a win against Chris Gruetzemacher in February of this year. Skelly has won more than half of his fights by submission.
Skelly will have the edge in crowd support with this fight taking place in Dallas. “I wanted to fight at my home town so people from Azle could come out and watch; the people I grew up with.” Skelly told MMAjunkie Radio, “It’s impossible for them to get out and go watch me anywhere else. Dallas is really the only place they could come, unless there’s a card in Forth Worth or something like that.” Skelly he expects a lot of family in friends in attendance. “When I would fight local shows, I would pretty much sell out the local venues,” Skelly said.
Skelly said that his matchup against Knight is a good one. “The only thing I say is, there’s only room for one redneck in this 145-pound UFC trailer park,” Skelly said. “And that’s me. I think we’re both pretty country.” Skelly said the losses he has suffered in his career have taught him to be smart. “One of the losses taught me I have to be smart and make better decisions with when to take fights and not to take fights. The Elkins fight, I wasn’t prepared for it. My camp was just awful – no preparation. I couldn’t stay in the gym.”
Skelly said that he wants this fight against Knight to be a complete effort. “I think I would like to make this a complete fight,” Skelly said. “To stay tactical, and look to beat him striking, and when the opportunity presents itself, take him down and beat him on the ground.”
Jason Knight (19-2)
Knight has only fought four times in the UFC but he has gone 3-1. He started with a loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri in 2015 but he has won his last three fights, as he defeated Jim Alers in July of last year, Dan Hooker in November of last year and he submitted Alex Caceres in late January this year.
Knight is even more of a submission specialist than Skelly, as Knight has won more than 60% of his fights by submission. Knight has a ground and pound style which should suit Skelly just fine.
UFC Picks
These two look to be evenly matched but the edge in experience in the UFC is definitely with Skelly and I think that will end up being the difference. I also think this fight goes the distance, so going over the rounds total is also worth considering.
