UFC 211 Odds - Cortney Casey vs. Jessica Aguilar Preview and Prediction

MMA-Undercard-Fight-1-bm-05-10

Cortney Casey is a slight favorite vs. Jessica Aguilar at UFC 211 on Saturday night in Dallas, Texas. Casey is 6-4 in her career, including 2-3 in the UFC, while Aguilar is 19-5, but has not fought since losing to Claudia Gadelha at UFC 190 in August of 2015. The bout between Casey and Aguilar is one of five on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card. There are four prelims on FX and then a five-fight main card on pay-per-view that features Stipe Miocic taking on Junior dos Santos and Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Andrade. Let’s look at Casey vs. Aguilar and UFC predictions.

Cortney Casey (6-4, 2-3 UFC)

Casey made her UFC debut in 2015 and lost to Joanne Calderwood and Seo Hee Ham. She came back in 2016 to defeat Cristina Stanciu and Randa Markos but late in 2016 she lost to Claudia Gadehla. Casey made some good strides in 2016 but there is no question the loss to Gadelha was a setback. Casey will have the edge in height and in reach against Aguilar.

Jessica Aguilar (19-5, 0-1 UFC)

There was a time when Aguilar was considered one of the top strawweights in the world. She is a former World Series of Fighting champion but she has not fought in almost two years. Aguilar was beaten by Gadelha in August of 2015. Aguilar was supposed to fight Juliana Lima at UFC 197 but Aguilar suffered a torn ACL and she needed a long time to recover. Even though she hasn’t fought in almost two years, Aguilar is still ranked in the Top 15 of female strawweights.

Aguilar said to Flo Combat that she is ready to get back into action. “I’ve done a lot over the course of my career, but this fight is also very important. It will give me a chance to get back on the winning side of things and it’s a good fight against a tough opponent. I think we are going to put on a good show. The fire is coming back for sure. Every week it’s getting hotter and hotter. The fire in me never stops, the competitive spirit never rests, but it’s building back up to full capacity now that I have someone to aim at. It was tough during the climb back because I had never been off so long, but was never going to let that stop me. It’s a work in progress, but that’s what I love about the sport.”

UFC Predictions

The big question to answer in this fight is how much the layoff will affect Aguilar. Casey is a decent fighter but Aguilar has more overall skill and experience. I am surprised that Casey is listed as the favorite in this fight, as Aguilar is the better fighter. I don’t think the layoff will be a problem, so I will take Aguilar to get the win.
