UFC 215 Odds - Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg Betting Preview

UFC---Demetrious-Johnson-vs.-Ray-Borg-bm

Demetrious Johnson can secure his place in the record books this Saturday. The flyweight champion will face Ray Borg in an attempt to make an 11th straight title defense, which would break a tie he currently holds with Anderson Silva. It’s a matchup that “Mighty Mouse” is expected to win, and the UFC odds at BookMaker.eu are fittingly lopsided.

Let’s break down the fight along with your betting options.

Ray Borg +600

Fight Breakdown

There’s nothing that Mighty Mouse doesn’t do well. Easily the most well-rounded champion in the UFC, Johnson can strike, wrestle and grapple at elite levels. More importantly, he seamlessly blends all these skills together to exploit his opponent’s weaknesses.

The scary thing about Johnson is that he’s getting better. Already a lap ahead of the rest of the division, the gap between him and the rest of the top contenders is only getting bigger. His dominance only seems to hurt his popularity - it’s almost boring watching him dismantle one challenger after another with such ease.

Ray Borg does not have an enviable task in trying to become the first flyweight to ever beat Johnson. But the 24-year old has evolved rapidly in his past two fights, showing off an improved striking game courtesy of a new training camp in Jackson-Wink MMA. He moves his head much better, throws tighter combinations and no longer backs straight up when retreating.

But despite his improved standup, Borg will not outbox an advanced striker like Johnson. His best opportunity is taking DJ to the mat, where he can work his specialized grappling. Operating much like a vise, Borg will clamp onto a limb and force opponents to react, creating openings for submissions.

Unfortunately for Borg, DJ doesn’t make the type of mistakes needed for him to lock up a sub. A fantastic counter-wrestler, Johnson really only gets taken down when a bigger fighter muscles him up. Borg isn’t a big flyweight by any means.

UFC Betting Tip

Johnson to win is -900, and his massive favorite status is much deserved. But since it’s so expensive, it’s only parlay fodder at this point. Although it’s much riskier, the under on 4.5 round pays out nearly even money at -115. Considering how big a jump in competition Borg is making here, it’s easy to see him getting finished before the 2:30 mark of the fifth.

UFC Odds Pick: Under 4.5 rounds -115
