One of the best matchups at UFC 216 on Saturday, October 7 in Las Vegas is expected to be the one between Tom Duquesnoy and Cody Stamann. The two fighters have combined to go 30-2 in their careers and each is on a long winning streak, as Duquesnoy has won his last 11 fights with a no-contest, while Staman has won his last eight bouts. This fight is one of four on the FXX portion of the preliminary card, leading up to a four-fight main card which features Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee and Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg.

Tom Duquesnoy (15-1-1, 1-0 UFC)
Duquesnoy made his UFC debut in April and looked really good in a TKO win over Patrick Williams. That win improved his overall record to 15-1-1. The win for Duquesnoy over Williams was not dull, as both fighters were bloodied, but Duquesnoy dominated at the end of the first round and then quickly pounded Williams at the beginning of the second round and the fight was stopped.
Duquesnoy said to Bloody Elbow that he was surprised Williams was so explosive. “He was actually very explosive and very strong in the fight,” said Duquesnoy, “I feel Patrick Williams was a big test for me, a physical test, because obviously he was very strong and very explosive, but also a wrestling test because he is a high level wrestler from the university circuit. So for me it was the moment to see where my wrestling defense was at.”
Duquesnoy believes this matchup against Stamanni is a good one for him. “It’s a good match up,” said Duquesnoy. “There are a lot of American fighters like him. He’s very strong - physically. He’s an explosive wrestle-boxer and I’m used to that kind of opponent. But, when you see his record you must respect him for the wins that he has and I can’t wait to measure my strengths against his.” Duquesnoy said that he has watched Samann’s previous fights carefully and that he expects a striking battle at UFC 216.
Duquesnoy has eight knockout wins in his career and four submission victories. He also has five first-round finishes.
Cody Stamann (15-1, 1-0 UFC)
Stamann made his UFC debut in early July of this year and he came away with a unanimous decision win against Terrion Ware. That win improved his overall record to 15-1. The previous five wins for Stamann came in Knockout Promotions. The last two wins for Stamann have come by TKO.
Stamann has six wins by knockout in this career and two by submission. He also has four first-round finishes.
UFC Picks
Duquesnoy and Stamann both come into this fight with similar records but I think Duquesnoy has faced better competition in his career than has Stamann. I just don’t put a lot of stock in the quality of Knockout Promotions. I think there are two plays that can be made in this fight, as I think Duquesnoy will get the win and I also think the fight will go under the rounds total, as both of these fighters are likely to engage in a striking battle that should result in a knockout.
