UFC 217 Odds - James Vick vs. Joseph Duffy

2017-UFC-MMA-Undercard-Fight-1-preview-Vick-vs-Duffy-Betting-Lines

Two exciting lightweights meet on Saturday night at UFC 217, as James Vick takes on Joseph Duffy. Vick is 11-1 in his career and he has had some good success in the UFC, as he is 7-1, while Duffy is 17-2 in his career, and he has won four of his five UFC bouts. The fight between Vick and Duffy is one of four on the preliminary card on FS1 leading up to a five-fight main card on pay-per-view that features Michael Bisping taking on Georges St-Pierre.

James Vick (11-1, 7-1 UFC)

Vick won the first four fights in his career and then made his UFC debut in 2013 as he submitted Ramsey Nijem. Vick built off that win and defeated Valmir Lazaro, Nick Hein, Jake Matthews and Glaico Franca. The only loss for Vick in his career came to Beneil Dariush at UFC 199 last year. Vick came back to beat Abel Trujillo in February of this year and Vick was last seen at UFC 211 in May, as he knocked out Marco Polo Reyes.

Vick has shown solid striking skills in his career and he has been excellent on the mat. Vick has five wins by submission in his career and he has three knockout wins. Vick has seven first round finishes.

If you ever wondered if fighters bet on themselves, the answer is yes. Vick said to ESPN that he bets on himself all the time. "Every time I fight, I bet on myself," Vick said, "I'm not betting crazy amounts, but I always bet the [maximum limit]."

Joseph Duffy (17-2, 4-1 UFC)

Duffy is probably best known for beating Conor McGregor when the two were fighting in Cage Warriors, but that was seven years ago. Duffy has fought five times in the UFC and he has won four of his five bouts. He made his debut in 2015 and scored a knockout win over Jake Lindsey. Duffy won his second UFC bout, as he submitted Ivan Jorge. The only loss for Duffy in the UFC occurred last year, as he lost a unanimous decision to Dustin Poirier. Duffy did rebound to submit Mitch Clarke in July of last year. The last fight for Duffy was a unanimous decision victory over Reza Madadi.

Duffy has been a pro since 2008 and he has ten wins by submission and four by knockout. He has 13 first round finishes. Duffy recently signed a new seven-fight deal with the UFC and Duffy said to the media he expects to be competing for the lightweight title before the deal is up. “Within the seven fights, I would like to have the title by then,” he said. “I’d like to have the title halfway through it, to be honest. Within the seven fights I believe I can be there fighting for the title or have the title.”

UFC Picks

This is an excellent matchup on the preliminary card between two fighters who look to be very evenly matched. I think the odds on this fight should be a pick, so I will make a play on this fight simply on value and take Vick at plus money.
