Mickey Gall is expected to get the first real test of his UFC career, as he takes on Randy Brown at UFC 217 on Saturday night in New York. Gall is 4-0 in his career, including 3-0 in the UFC, but he has done more talking than fighting and his level of competition has been weak. Brown comes into this fight at 9-2, including 3-2 in the UFC. The fight between Brown and Gall is one of four on the preliminary card on FS1 leading up to a five-fight main card on pay-per-view that features Michael Bisping taking on Georges St-Pierre.

Randy Brown (9-2, 3-2 UFC)
Brown has only lost twice in this career, but both of those losses came in the UFC. He made his UFC debut last January and he defeated Matt Dwyer but Brown lost by submission to Michael Graves last April. Brown did recover to submit Erick Montano last September and he followed up that bout with a TKO of Brian Camozzi in December. Brown’s last fight came in February at UFC 208 and he lost a unanimous decision to Belal Muhammad. That fight occurred in New York, but the home crowd advantage didn’t help Brown in that bout. Brown won’t have the home crowd edge in this fight on Saturday because Gall is also from New York.
Mickey Gall (4-0, 3-0 UFC)
Gall is unbeaten in his career at 4-0, with three of those wins coming in the UFC. He defeated Mike Jackson in his UFC debut last year and then took out CM Punk. The last fight for Gall was in December of last year when he defeated Sage Northcutt.
Even though Gall is unbeaten, the only quality opponent he has faced is Northcutt. Gall has looked good on the mat with four naked-choke wins but we really don’t know if Gall is any good. What we do know is that he is good at running his mouth and that he is confident. “I know I can always handle the moment,” Gall said to Newsday. “I was the fight before the co-main with CM Punk and I handled that no problem, and then I was the co-main event in my third UFC fight, and it felt great. It felt like I could’ve been fighting in my backyard, I felt good. Moments never get to me, I’m cool under pressure, and I learned all that.”
UFC Picks
Brown has fought some decent competition, while Gall has fought no one. Brown pretty much said that exact thing to Newsday. “The level of competition I’ve fought and the level of competition he’s fought, there’s no comparison.” Brown said, “He’s fought Sage Northcutt, who has no grappling. He’s fought a reporter, Michael Jackson, and then CM Punk. And he’s dominated these guys — as he should. But as far as I’m concerned, this is his first pro fight, with me, and he’s going to be tested.”
I agree with Brown that Gall simply hasn’t fought anyone. Perhaps Gall has some talent and can handle top competition, but we don’t know that yet. I will take Brown to get the win in this fight.
