Boston’s own Calvin Kattar will fight in his hometown this Saturday, meeting the undefeated Shane Burgos in a compelling matchup of up-and-coming featherweights. Kattar comes into the tilt with a 10-fight winning streak, while Burgos will try and protect a 10-0 record. Considering how willing both men are to stand-and-trade, this is a fight that could light up the TD Garden.

Matchup Breakdown

Burgos is still rather new to the MMA game, but his rise through the regional ranks was an explosive one. Now, he owns three UFC wins at just 26 years old, along with an 80% finishing ratio. Even in a division brimming with young talent, Burgos is a bright prospect.

The Tiger Schulman rep fights with a confident swagger, not unlike welterweight Mike Perry. While not quite the one-punch knockout artist Perry is, Burgos is every bit as willing to bite down on his mouthpiece and throw heavy leather. While he does like to come forward, the 26-year old does his best work when countering with his deadly left hook.

Taking Burgos to the ground is the easiest way to beat him, but don’t expect Kattar to go that route. Kattar is an athletic striker with an arsenal of flashy, leaping strikes and excellent technical footwork. He scrambles well enough to let him take risks on the feet, though his knockout power can be called into question - “The Boston Finisher” only has one finish in his past seven fights.

The story of this fight will be whether Burgos can successfully counter Kattar’s aggression. We lean towards Kattar here, as it’s difficult to slip-and-rip against such a creative striker. Kattar also has underrated reactive takedowns, which should allow him to win rounds from the top position if need be.

UFC Betting Tips

You’ve got two solid options here: Kattar to win and the rounds over. The former is the riskier pick as Burgos is excellent when it comes to firefights. The latter is a safe play considering Kattar’s habit of going to decision.

UFC Odds Pick: Over 2.5 rounds at -175
