Two fighters looking to break into the Top 10 in the UFC bantamweight division meet at UFC Fight Night 109 on Sunday, May 28 in Sweden, as Pedro Munhoz takes on Damian Stasiak. Both fighters come into this bout on a two-fight winning streak, as Munhoz is coming off wins against Russell Doane and Justin Scoggins, while Stasiak defeated Filip Pejic and Davey Grant. The bout between Munhoz and Stasiak is one of four on the FS1 portion of the preliminary card, leading up to the main card on FS1, which features Alexander Gustafsson vs. Glover Teixeira. Let’s look at Munhoz vs. Stasiak and UFC predictions.

Pedro Munhoz (13-2, 3-2 UFC)
Munhoz was unbeaten at 10-0 when he made his UFC debut against Raphael Assuncao at UFC 170 in 2014. He lost that fight by unanimous decision but he bounced back to beat Matt Hobar later that year. He then defeated Jerrod Sanders by submission but that win was turned into a no contest after Munhoz failed a drug test. He sat out nearly a year due to suspension before he lost a split decision to Jimmie Rivera in November of 2015. He then came back in 2016 and defeated Doane and Scoggins, both by submission. His latest two wins earned him “Performance of the Night” bonuses. Munhoz is currently ranked No. 12 in the latest UFC bantamweight rankings and a win against Stasiak might be enough to move him into the Top 10.
Munhoz is always looking to gain position and use his favorite submission technique, the guillotine choke. He has seven wins in his career by submission and he has five first round finishes.
Damian Stasiak (10-3, 2-1 UFC)
Stasiak was 8-2 in his career when he made his UFC debut against Yaotzin Meza in April of 2015. He lost that bout by unanimous decision and then was out of action for a year. He returned to submit Filip Pejic in April of 2016 and he defeated Davey Grant by submission at UFC 204 last October. Six of the last eight Stasiak fights have ended in submission.
Stasiak has similar skills to Munhoz, as he has seven wins by submission and four first round finishes.
UFC Predictions
The odds on this fight have not yet been released but there is no doubt that Munhoz is going to be favored, as he is ranked, while Stasiak is not. If Munhoz comes out as a big favorite there could be some value on Stasiak. Both Munhoz and Stasiak have similar styles and there is not that much separating the two, as each has a similar record and they have a similar skill set. It is going to be a matter of which fighter gains position first and gets the submission. Stasiak has shown the ability to dominate on the mat and he should have a chance against Munhoz. If he is listed as more than a 3-1 underdog I think there is value in taking him. I also think this fight is more than likely going to end with a submission, so I will play the rounds to go under the total.
