Syuri Kondo makes her UFC debut, as she takes on Chan-Mi Jeon at UFC Fight Night 117 in Japan, in one of the preliminary fights that can be seen on Friday night on FXX. Kondo, better known as Syuri because of her huge popularity in Japan, comes into this fight at 5-0, while Jeon is 5-1. This fight is one of four bouts on the FXX preliminary card, leading up to a six-fight main card that features Ovince Saint Preux vs. Yushin Okami.

Chan-Mi Jeon (5-0, UFC debut)
The youngest fighter on the current UFC roster is Jeon, who is just 20-years old. She is 5-1 in her career but she looked completely overmatched in her UFC debut, as she was dominated by JJ Aldrich in June of this year. Jeon had previously competed against competition in South Korea and she was not prepared to handle a UFC fighter.
Jeon has been a pro since 2015. She has four wins by knockout in her career and four first-round finishes. She said on UFC.com that she doesn’t know much about Syrui. “I know she was champion of Crush & Pancrase in Japan, and I think she is a good fighter. However, that is all I know. I expect it will be exciting match with her in UFC Japan.”
Syuri Kondo (5-1, 0-1 UFC)
Syuri made her MMA debut in 2016 with Pancrase and she won all five of her fights. Four of her wins were by unanimous decision, while the other was by TKO. Syuri was 13-1 in her 14 kickboxing and Shootboxing matches.
Syuri will have a monumental home crowd edge in this fight, as she is the queen of professional wrestling in Japan. She also has experience as a pop star and an actress. Just think of her as Japan’s Ronda Rousey. Syuri said to the South China Morning Post that she intends to eventually challenge current UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. “I’m happy and excited at the same time,” said Syuri, “The timing is great and the UFC and I have the same momentum. As I have become an MMA fighter, they have started looking for an Asian champion.”
Syuri will get a good look at the top challengers in the division, as Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Andrade fight in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 117. “I will be watching,” said Suryi. “This is just the beginning for me because my ultimate goal is to be a champion.”
UFC Picks
I am completely shocked that the odds on this fight are a pick. Yes, this is the debut for Syuri but she has all the looks of a future star in the UFC and she is going up against a baby in Jeon. Syuri is eight years older than Jeon and has far more experience. I think the only way that Jeon could win this fight is by knockout and I don’t see that happening. Syuri should dominate the action on the mat and she is going to get a huge amount of crowd support. I would take Syuri even if she was a 3-1 favorite and we get her at a major bargain in this fight as a pick.
