MMA-Undercard-Fight-1_preview-bm-10-25

Niko Price will look to remain unbeaten, as he takes on Vicente Luque at UFC Fight Night 119 on Saturday in Brazil. Price is 10-0-1in his career, including 2-0-1 in the UFC, and he is coming off a knockout of Alan Jouban in early August. Luque is taking this fight on short notice, as he is replacing the injured Luan Chagas. Luque is 11-6-1 in his career and coming off a loss to Leon Edwards. The fight between Luque and Price is one of three on the preliminary card on FS2 leading up to a six-fight main card on FS1 that features Derek Brunson vs. Lyoto Machida.

Vicente Luque (11-6-1, 4-2 UFC)

Luque has had some success in the UFC although his level of competition has been pretty weak. Luque made his UFC debut in July of 2015 and lost a decision to Michael Graves. Luque came back to defeat Hayder Hassan in December of 2015 and followed that win up by beating Alvaro Herrera in July of 2016. Two more wins followed, as Luque beat Hector Urbina last September and Belal Muhammand last November. Luque is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards in March of this year.

Luque has five submission wins and five knockouts and he has eight first round finishes.

Niko Price (10-0-1, 2-0-1 UFC)

Price has been extremely impressive in his career, winning all 11 of his fights. The win against Alex Morono in February of this year was turned into a no-contest, after Price tested for marijuana. Price won his first eight fights in Fight Time and most of them didn’t last long, as six of the eight ended in the first round. Price made his UFC debut in December of last year and defeated Brandon Thatch by first round submission at UFC 207. Price followed that win up by knocking out Morono in February, but that win was turned into a no-contest. Price was last seen in August as he destroyed Alan Jouban, winning by first round TKO.

Price has finished 10 of his 11 opponents and only three of his 11 fights have gone past the first round. Price said after his win against Jouban that he goes right at his opponent. “I’m down to bang,” Price said. “I’m going to stand there and see what you got. If I can’t handle you up there, I’m taking you to the ground to see what’s there. I’m ready to go whenever.”

UFC Picks

This fight will be entertaining for as long as it lasts. Luque is an impressive striker and all of his UFC wins are finishes. The problem for Luque is that he is going against an opponent in Price who is a better striker. I think this is a bad matchup for Luque simply because Price thrives on getting into a striking battle. We don’t actually know what the best way to beat Price is because he hasn’t lost but we definitely know it isn’t by getting into a striking battle with him. I will take Price to get the win and also play the rounds to go under.
