Danielle Taylor (9-2, 2-1 UFC)
Taylor won her first five fights in KOTC before losing to Jamie Colleen in 2015. Taylor bounced back to knock out Calie Cutler later in 2015 and Taylor got revenge against Colleen in 2016, beating her to win the KOTC Strawweight Championship. Taylor made her UFC debut in August of 2016 and lost a tough split decision to Maryna Moroz. Taylor came back to win a split decision against Seo Hee Ham in November of 2016 and Taylor won a unanimous decision against Jessica Penne in April of 2017.
Taylor does not have a lot of knockout power, as she has just three knockout wins in her career. She also has one submission victory.
JJ Aldrich (5-2, 1-1 UFC)
Aldrich has only been a pro fighter since 2014 but she has five wins and two losses. She made her MMA debut in Invicta FC and won against Delaney Owen. Aldrich won three of her other four fights in Invicta FC and then made her UFC debut in December of 2016 and lost to Juliana Lima by unanimous decision. Aldrich did rebound to defeat Chan-Mi Jeon in June of this year, winning by unanimous decision. Aldrich said recently to the media that her time spent with Invicta was extremely important. “It was a high-caliber organization for me to debut in, and I felt I was on that level. I grew little by little in Invicta, and competing in front of the cameras helped prepare me to be in the UFC.”
Aldrich doesn’t have a ton of experience but she has been training with some of the top fighters in the UFC including former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and current UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas. “Rose has been a longtime training partner, and I’ve seen Rose grow,” Aldrich said recently. “And to be close to someone and see her become champion was eye-opening.”
Aldrich said that the matchup against Taylor is a good one for her. “Danielle is a super-tough fighter, and it’s a really tough match-up for me,” Aldrich said. “But I also think it’s a good fight and great matchup for myself.”
UFC Picks
The odds have not yet been released on this fight but I am assuming that Taylor will be listed as the favorite. Taylor has slightly more experience than Aldrich, but I don’t see that much difference in the two fighters. They both have two losses, but I give Aldrich a little more credit, as the loss against Lima was a fight Aldrich took with very little prep time. I will take Aldrich to win this fight against Taylor and I also like the rounds to go over the total.
