LIVE UNDERDOGS
Jared Rosholt +140 vs. Roy Nelson -170
What has Roy Nelson done recently to merit his status as a -170 favorite? “Big Country” is 1-5 in his past six fights, and hasn’t been competitive in any of his losses. He’s looked slow, listless and has taken some brutal beatings in that span. Now he’s facing a guy that’s 6-1 in the UFC heavyweight division and is 10 years younger. I’m shocked that Rosholt is an underdog, and you need to jump all over this +140 money line.
RISKY UNDERDOGS
Stephen Thompson +220 vs. Johny Hendricks -280
Rafael Cavalcante +315 vs. Ovince St. Preux -385
K.J. Noons +140 vs. Josh Burkman -165
Thompson might be one of the hottest names in the welterweight division, but if Hendricks commits to a wrestling-centric approach to nullify his superb striking, it could be a long night for “Wonderboy.” Hendricks would be a fool not to try and control this fight from the top.
Former Strikeforce champion Rafael Cavalcante has had a disappointing UFC run, but don’t overlook how dangerous he can be on the feet. With 11 KOs in 12 career victories, he could easily knock OSP senseless - I just wouldn’t count on it.
At his peak, KJ Noons is a guy that took out Nick Diaz, George Sotiropoulos and Yves Edwards. He tends to rise to his opponent’s level, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that he should be fighting at lightweight.
DEAD UNDERDOGS / STAY AWAY
Zach Makovsky +345 vs. Joe Benavidez -425
Derrick Lewis +125 vs. Damian Grabowski -145
Misha Cirkunov -920 vs. Andrew Nicholson +620
Joe Benavidez’ only losses in nearly 20 UFC/WEC fights have come against Dominick Cruz and Demetrious Johnson. Simply put, Makovsky isn’t going to join that list. Damian Grabowski and Andrew Nicholson are UFC newcomers, so it’s difficult to predict how they’ll perform. I do think that Cirkunov is a solid pick against the inexperienced Nicholson, but “The Spartan’s” KO power is pretty scary.
