We’re just a few days away from UFC Fight Night 86 in Croatia, which means it’s time to lock in your bets. The main card has some compelling options, starting with a straight up pick’em in the headlining act between Ben Rothwell and Junior dos Santos.
MAIN EVENT, HEAVYWEIGHTS
Ben Rothwell -110
Junior dos Santos -110
Over/under 1.5 rounds, over -135, under +115
PREDICTION: Rothwell UD dos Santos
If we’re talking in broad strokes, Rothwell has never looked better while dos Santos has never looked worse. What worries me about the Brazilian is how tentative he looked against Alistair Overeem - he was shockingly tentative for a fighter that won the championship belt behind aggressive, technical boxing. Rothwell is flying high on a four-fight win streak against some of the division’s best and is just one win away from a title shot.
HEAVYWEIGHTS
Derrick Lewis -140
Gabriel Gonzaga +120
Over/under 1.5 rounds, over +130, under 150
PREDICTION: Lewis TKO Gonzaga, Round 2
Derrick Lewis is a brawl-or-nothing knockout guy, and he’s a pretty damn good one. Gonzaga is a guy that’s been knocked out in eight of his fights. The Brazilian is far from the fighter he used to be, and I don’t think he can avoid Lewis’ nuclear assault for more than a few rounds.
Heavyweights
Francis Ngannou -127
Curtis Blaydes +105
Over/under 1.5 rounds, over -125, under +105
PREDICTION: Ngannou KO Blaydes, Round 1
The UFC odds at BookMaker are absolutely correct here. Ngannou is a huge, explosive young talent, while Blaydes was signed off the scrap heap of regional promotions. Blaydes is a complete unknown, but the fact the he wasn’t on any radars says a lot.
Light Heavyweights
Igor Pokrajac +290
Jan Blachowicz -350
Over/under 1.5 rounds, over +290, under -350
PREDICTION: Blachowicz KO Pokrajac, Round 3
Pokrajac is an old 37, with the wear and tear of 40 pro fights on his body. He was cut from the UFC after a five-fight winless streak only to be brought back to fight in his native country. Blachowicz is one of the best boxers in the division, and is the younger, faster, stronger fighter.
Strawweights
Maryna Moroz -190
Christina Stanciu +161
Over/under 1.5 rounds, over -185, under +160
Moroz failed to capitalize on a big upset win over JoJo Calderwood in her UFC debut, losing a decision to Valerie Letourneau in her last outing. She’ll have a chance to bounce back against undefeated newcomer Christina Stanciu, who comes from the regional RXF promotion. If Moroz can hang with fighters like Calderwood and Letourneau, she should be able to beat an inexperienced Stanciu.
