UFC Fight Night: Battle of the big men - Timothy Johnson and Jared Rosholt scheduled for heavyweight melee at UFC Fight Night 73

2015-Jared-Rosholt-vs-Johnson-betting-Odds

UFC betting online: It’s been a while since heavyweight Timothy Johnson – 9-1, 5 KOs, 4 SUBs – has tasted defeat. The big man is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak dating back to 2012, and that includes a victory in his UFC debut against Shamil Abdurakhimov. Johnson will look for his ninth straight victory in a bout with veteran Jared Rosholt – 12-2, 4 KOs, 3 SUBs – for the UFC’s return to Nashville.

Check our UFC odds for the latest Johnson-Rosholt money lines, and expect Rosholt to be the favorite going into the bout – starting around minus-150. The over/under in this three-rounder is likely to be set at 1.5 rounds, with the under being the favorite in the minus-200 range. THIS MIGHT GET MESSY

There’s just something fascinating about two big, lumbering heavyweights meeting inside a cage. Neither Johnson nor Rosholt will ever be considered title contenders, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a place in the octagon. Their purpose in Nashville is to entertain, and nobody’s complaining about it.

Rosholt has been a solid gatekeeper for the heavyweight division, having just enough skills and grit to beat the pretenders on a consistent basis. With four knockouts and three submissions in his 12 victories, “The Big Show” is a better all-around fighter than his doughy physique would suggest. The UFC knows exactly what it has in Rosholt, which is why you’ll never see him against the likes of Cain Velasquez or even Travis Browne.

Johnson looks like he should be on a vintage circus poster for The World’s Strongest Man. He’s burly, hairy, bald and sports a robust moustache. Sure he’s on an eight-fight winning streak, but taking a look at his opponents, the only name I recognize is Travis Wiuff – who had a brief, unsuccessful UFC stint. But given the lack of quality heavyweights in the world, an eight-fight winning streak isn’t something to ignore, even if they’re in promotions like Max Fights and Dakota FC.

FIGHT ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

This might be a closer matchup than you think, as both men have a balanced win records with KOs and SUBs. However, Rosholt’s resume is much better than Johnson’s, and he’s nowhere near done at 28 years old. If you’re betting on the money line, I’d go with Rosholt, but the safer bet might be the under. Johnson has never seen a third round, and only three of his fights have even gone to the second. Four of Rosholt’s last five has gone to decision, but Johnson is the type of guy that will force the issue. It’s easy to see somebody going down early.
