We still don’t have an official date for Jon Jones-Daniel Cormier 2, but that hasn’t stopped the action in our sportsbook.

Our Future Events section has had odds up for the rematch for about a month now, and it appears that bettors are flocking towards Jones, driving the price of his money line up significantly.

ODDS ANALYSIS

A few weeks ago, Jones’ money line was at -305, with Cormier at +235. In a few sportsbooks, Jones opened at -250 with Cormier at +210. That’s nearly a 100-point swing, and I expect this trend to continue. I doubt there will be a flurry of late betting on Cormier, and I’d peg Bones to be nearly -375 on fight night.

WHAT’S DRIVING THE ACTION?

For starters, it might be the fact that Jones beat Cormier handily the first time they met at UFC 182. While Cormier was able to capture the 205-pound strap while Jones was on the sidelines, it’s not like he completely elevated his game in doing so, like we’ve seen with Fabricio Werdum.

Cormier is largely the same fighter that lost to Jones. He might be tougher after emerging from a war with Alexander Gustaffson, but it’s hard to quantify how that’ll translate against the former champion. If anything, it puts more wear and tear on DC’s 36-year old body. He swears he’s a better fighter now after overcoming diversity, so maybe it’ll help him mentally.

Meanwhile, Jones is well-rested and motivated to get his belt back. We’ve also seen him post some instagram photos of his new, positively shredded body. Whereas he was long and lanky before his suspension, a new powerlifting routine has bulked up his frame to comic book proportions.

Frankly, that has to be terrifying for future opponents. It also probably drove some indecisive gamblers to bet on Jones as well. All it takes is a few short clips of his training sessions to realize that we may have forgotten that he was on track to become the greatest fighter of all time. The fact that he’s added more power to his game is just icing on the cake.

BETTING ON JONES

If you were planning to bet on Jones, you better do it now before his money line shifts further into chalk territory. Because I don’t see him getting any cheaper. Likewise, if you think Cormier is going to pull out a victory, you might want to wait and see if his value goes up then strike when his line gets anywhere close to +300.

Another interesting bet is the over/under at 4.5 rounds. While Cormier has never been finished, I think Jones will look to make a statement in taking back the belt he never lost. That means he might actively look for the finish. The under at +125 is a great value for a small play.
