CAIN VELASQUEZ VS. TRAVIS BROWNE
Targeted for: UFC 200, July 9
Projected odds: Velazquez - 200, Browne + 175
Former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez’ inability to stay healthy has cost him a rematch title shot against Fabricio Werdum. Still, many consider him the most talented big man on the roster. The fact that he’s getting a slot on the highly coveted UFC 200 main card speaks to how highly the promotion still thinks of him.
Browne is a great tune - up bout for Velasquez. He’s still top - ranked fighter at heavyweight, but his career has stalled somewhat as he’s just 2 - 2 in his past four. If Cain can get by “Hapa”, he’ll most likely get a title shot next.
ANDERSON SILVA VS. URIAH HALL
Targeted for: UFC 198, May 14
Current odds: COMING SOON
UFC 198 takes place at a giant soccer stadium in Curitiba, Brazil - so you know the atmosphere is gonna be electric. Obviously, Dana White wants one of the country’s biggest stars on the card. Coming off a hotly contested loss to Michael Bisping, Anderson Silva is probably itching to get back in the octagon.
Credit to matchmaker Joe Silva for pitting him against Uriah Hall, who is one of the most explosive strikers in the division. Fight fans are already dreaming about a fight filled with flashy kicks and brutal violence.
RENAN BARAO VS. JEREMY STEPHENS
Targeted for: UFC Fight Night 88, May 29
Projected odds: Renan Barao - 195, Jeremy Stephens +200
Former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao is hoping a move up to featherweight will rejuvenate a career that was stalled by two title losses to T.J. Dillashaw. He gets a decent test in Jeremy Stephens, who has lost three of his past four. This is all about how good the former titleholder will look in a higher weight class, as he’s struggled mightily to make 135 in the past.
CRIS CYBORG VS. ?
Targeted for: Targeted for: UFC 198, May 14
I was shocked to hear that the UFC was attempting to find a fight for Cristiane Santos, who they’ve been avoiding like the plague. But considering that she grew up in Curitiba, where UFC 198 is taking place, it makes sense for one of the biggest women’s stars to fight in her hometown.
While the Invicta champ fights at 145, a women’s division that does not exist, there are opponents willing to test themselves against one of the pound - for - pound best at catchweight. And because Invicta is owned by the UFC, Justino is technically under contract by Zuffa - so this can work. It’s about damn time we see Cyborg’s brand of destruction in the octagon!
