There might not be any MMA events this week, but there’s plenty of fights in the sportsbook you can bet on now. And any sports gambler worth his chips should always be looking ahead for underdogs who are undervalued. You don’t need us to tell you that the lines can quickly shift out of your favor - sometimes overnight.
Of course, there’s the flipside where you can wait until fight night to see what a money line closes at, because there’s often dramatic swings right before the action starts. But that’s leaving a little too much to chance for our liking. So let’s take a look at a few underdogs you can bet on right now and pick out a few great values.

UFC 223, April 7
Tony Ferguson +200 vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov -250
Michael Chiesa +100 vs. Anthony Pettis -120
Rose Namajunas +150 vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk -180
The next major fight card has three intriguing underdogs you should be looking at. In the main event, Tony Ferguson pays out 2 to 1 - the first time since his UFC debut that he’s been an underdog. The interim champ is gonna have some serious problems with Khabib’s wrestling, but this is a dude on a 10-fight winning streak against the lightweight elite. His otherworldly cardio is a weapon that’s every bit as dangerous as The Eagle’s grappling, and he finished two great wrestlers in Gleison Tibau and Kevin Lee.
We’re not sure why Michael Chiesa is the underdog against Anthony Pettis, but it probably has something to do with the fact that “Showtime” is still one of the more recognizable fighters at 155. This is just a terrible matchup for the former lightweight champ, who has been exposed by good wrestlers in the past - Chiesa just so happens to be an excellent submission wrestler.
“Thug” Rose opened as more than a 2-1 underdog, but that price quickly dropped to +150 after an early flood of bets came in on the Namajunas. Still, the current odds are a solid price - she flattened Joanna in less than one round! This could be a case where a fighter just has an opponent’s number.
UFC on FOX 29, April 14
Justin Gaethje +120 vs. Dustin Poirier -140
The money lines are actually pretty close between Poirier and Gaethje, and it should actually be an extremely competitive fight. Poirier is the better athlete of the two, but he’s also a guy that can be caught and overwhelmed. Gaethje never stops coming forward, and despite his reputation as a brawler, “The Highlight” is actually an excellent technical kickboxer.
It almost sucks that there has to be a winner in this scrap, because it’s gonna be so much fun. With two guys as violent as these, this pretty much becomes a 50-50 affair, making the underdog the fighter to go with.
UFC 225, June 9
CM Punk +200 vs. Mike Jackson -260
It’s easy to remember how garbage CM Punk looked in his UFC debut, but Mike Jackson didn’t look that much better in his lone pro fight against Mickey Gall. Jackson has a background as a kickboxer, but it’s fair to question how much he actually even trains. His current career focus is as a sportswriter, but the UFC is bringing him in to at least give Punk a chance.
As for Punk, he made enough money in WWE to train as a full-time fighter for the past couple years. Plus, Punk’s home is Roufusport, which is a legit fight camp. He’s got a much better shot at winning than oddsmakers are giving him credit for.
