Newly crowned women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg already has a next opponent in her sights: former bantamweight champ Holly Holm. It’s a smart callout for Cyborg: Holm is the biggest star in the division and already fought Germaine de Randamie at 145 pounds for the inaugural title. In fact, it’s the biggest women’s fight the UFC could make.
We’ll see whether Holm accepts the challenge. She’s kind of in a no-win situation here: either fight the scariest woman in the world or come up with an excuse that’ll damage her credibility as a fighter.

Those are some lopsided money lines, but you’d have to back to July 2013 to find a fight where Cyborg closed at any less than a -950 favorite. In three UFC fights, against Leslie Smith, Lina Lansberg and Tonya Evinger, Cyborg’s money lines were -975, -950 and -1100 respectively.
Holm does have some things working in her favor though: she’s a huge bantamweight and a better striker than any opponent Justino’s ever faced. That left round kick is a killer, and her excellent footwork is the result of a championship boxing career.
But the Cyborg that most recently TKO’d Tonya Evinger was the best Cyborg we’ve ever seen. That’s saying a lot, considering just how badly she’s mangled girls for the better part of a decade. Before, the Brazilian was content to charge forward and maul opponents. In the UFC, she’s patient, poised and precise - making her all the more deadly.
Physically, I just don’t see how anybody at 135 pounds or up can compete with the featherweight champ. Cyborg’s athleticism, movement and hand speed is just on a different level. Holm is a fine athlete in her own regard, but you only need to watch a minute of each fighter to see how much quicker Cyborg is.
If this fight gets made, I sincerely hope that I’m wrong about Holm’s chances. Cyborg’s dominance is mesmerizing to watch, but at some point we want to see her tested. Holm was able to shatter Ronda Rousey’s invincible aura - perhaps she can do so again with an even more frightening fighter.
