UNDERDOGS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

BECAUSE LOMBARD IS OFF PEDS

UFC Fight Night 85

Neil Magny +125 vs. Hector Lombard -145

Hector Lombard hasn’t fought in over a year since getting popped for steroids. Considering the ring rust and the fact that he’s off PEDs, I give Magny a great shot at beating the welterweight contender. Magny has looked fantastic of late, with his lone loss in his past 10 fights coming against an elite fighter in Demian Maia. Lombard’s spotty cardio will be a huge issue Magny, who can easily go five rounds.

BECAUSE DOS SANTOS STILL PACKS A PUNCH

UFC Fight Night 86

Junior dos Santos +105 vs. Ben Rothwell -125

Junior dos Santos is barely an underdog against Ben Rothwell, even though he’s in the worst stretch of his fighting career. And although Rothwell has never looked better, the matchup is not a favorable one in a few regards. Big Ben’s standup defense has never been a strength, and dos Santos is one of the most technical boxers in the division, with a ton of pop in his punches. He could easily light up Rothwell.

BECAUSE THE EAGLE MIGHT HAVE LOST SOME FEATHERS

UFC on FOX 19

Tony Ferguson +150 vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov -170

Despite Rafael dos Anjos’ impressive championship run, it’s Tony Ferguson that’s the hottest fighter in the lightweight division. There are many experts who feel that his UFC on FOX 19 opponent, Khabib Nurmagomedov, would be champion right now had he stayed healthy. But the fact of the matter is that the Dagestani grappler hasn’t fought in nearly two years and is coming off a slew of major injuries. He might not be the same fighter, and he’s getting an extremely difficult comeback fight.

BECAUSE GADELHA PROBABLY WON THE FIRST TIME

TUF 23 Finale

Claudia Gadelha +150.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk -190

Most people - myself included - scored their first fight for Gadelha. The Brazilian hasn’t lost a step since that loss. She’s still the most physically imposing fighter in the division, blessed with tremendous strength and eye-popping athleticism. While Jedrzejczyk has gained invaluable championship experience, the matchup still seems like a dead even fight.
