Right now, all eyes are on the featherweight division, and that's due to one man: newly crowned champion Conor McGregor. But look past the Irishman, and you have one of the deepest divisions in the UFC. It feels weird to have a featherweight ranking list without the great Jose Aldo at the top of it, but sooner or later he would have lost. As always, odds for upcoming fights are listed if applicable.

Champion: Conor McGregor
Next Fight: TBA
The brash 'Notorious' made good on his vocal promises and knocked out Aldo to retain the belt. And while his resume pales in comparison to the Brazilian long track record of success, he is without a doubt the best featherweight in the world today. Dana White has stated that he can choose his next opponent, which is something that is pretty much unprecedented in the promotion. Likely opponents include Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar or lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
2. Jose Aldo
Next Fight: TBA
Jose Aldo finds himself in an unfamiliar position: without a title. For the first time since the UFC installed a featherweight division, Aldo is fighting for a shot at the belt instead of fending off challengers. He's stated his desire for an immediate rematch, and if the champion wasn't Conor McGregor, he probably would've gotten it. But like everybody else, he's at the mercy of the Irishman's whims.
3. Frankie Edgar
Next Fight: TBA
'The Answer' has one five straight in a stacked class, a win streak that includes names like Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson and Chad Mendes. You could easily argue that he is the rightful number one contender, ahead of even Aldo. He's been uncharacteristically vocal about getting a title shot against McGregor, but his cries seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
4. Max Holloway
Next Fight: TBA
At just 24 years old, Max Holloway perhaps has the brightest future of anyone on the list, as he's already a top-5 fighter in the division. The scary thing is that he can get even better and stronger as he matures. His next fight should be a title eliminator, but there's no guarantees in the featherweight division.
5. Chad Mendes
Next Fight: TBA
After getting knocked out in the first round by Frankie Edgar at the TUF 22 Finale, Mendes is now 1-3 in his last four. Still, he's an elite fighter whose only losses in 16 Zuffa-promoted fights have come against Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor and Edgar. That's impressive.
Fighters to watch:
Mirsad Bektic
Charles Oliveira
Ricardo Lamas
Cub Swanson
Bektic is currently not in the top-15, but the 24-year old is 10-0 and ready to make a run. It's only a matter of time before his ridiculous power and dominant wrestling puts him in the mix. Charles Oliveira and Ricardo Lamas are two athletic Brazilians with a ton of skills, but they've already lost against elite competitors. Cub Swanson is practically a gatekeeper, but he's a very, very good one with the skills to break out of the role.
