UFC odds - Holly Holm vs. the women’s bantamweight division

UFC-Holly-Holm-potential-challengers-Nov1

Now that the dust has finally settled around Holly Holm as the new women’s bantamweight champion, let’s step back and look at the state of the division. It’s safe to say that this division is wide open. Without Ronda’s unbeatable aura now shattered, becoming the 135-pound champion seems more attainable than ever for a plethora of talented fighters. Let’s take a look at how Holm would fare against the elite bantamweights.

THE REMATCH

Holly Holm +155 vs. Ronda Rousey -175

I’m surprised that Rousey would be favored in an immediate rematch. Not just because Holm’s win was so thorough, but also because it seems obvious that Rousey’s flaws cannot be fixed in a single fight camp. The new champion proved to be the worst possible matchup for Ronda, and it might behoove Rousey to switch camps and take a few fights before she gets into the cage with Holm again.

THE PERENNIAL CONTENDER

Holly Holm -200 vs. Miesha Tate +160

Tate was originally penciled in to face Rousey for a third time, before the UFC changed their minds. If Rousey elects to take a break, there is nobody with a better case to challenge Holm than Tate. While she’s not elite in any one area of MMA, Tate has intangibles, like grit and determination, that would test Holm. There’s a reason that Tate has won four in a row against some of the division’s top players.

STRIKER VS. STRIKER

Holly Holm -175 vs. Amanda Nunes +110

Amanda Nunes opened a lot of eyes in a win over former title challenger Sara McMann at UFC Fight Night 73. The Brazilian showcased fantastic athleticism and rocked McMann with crisp, powerful punching combinations. What’s more, she displayed a full vocabulary of MMA skill when she quickly took a stunned McMann’s back and locked up a submission victory. In terms of striking, Nunes might be the most dangerous contender to Holm’s reign.

THE BULLY

Holly Holm -235 vs. Cat Zingano +180

Like Rousey, Zingano is a powerful pressure fighter who can do a ton of damage in the clinch. However, Zingano’s lack of technique in her standup game would seriously hurt her chances to beat a more polished Holm. But Alpha thrives on creating chaos, where her natural power takes over. If Holm and Zingano ever meet, it would be a wildly entertaining affair.

THE SUPERFIGHT

Holly Holm +115 vs. Cris Justino -110

Although Cyborg has yet to join the UFC, many believe her to be the best pound-for-pound women’s fighter on the planet. A Muay Thai specialist, she is a much better technical striker than Rousey, and she is famous for her ultra-aggressive style. Just thinking about how Holm’s brilliant tactics would matchup against Cyborg’s violence gives me the chills. Please, can we make this fight happen already?
