July 7, The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale

Jared Cannonier vs. Steve Bosse

Rock Out to a Knockout

It’s not the main event, but Cannonier vs. Bosse is definitely the funnest fight scheduled for the TUF 25 Finale. These are two dudes with heavy hands that love to throw. Cannonier is a monster of a man fittingly nicknamed “The Killa Gorrilla”. Bosse is a former ice hockey enforcer with 9 KOs in 12 career wins.

What’s not to like here? Despite the evolution of the MMA game, nothing gets a crowd going like a good ol’ fashioned slugfest between two bombers.

July 8, UFC 213

Robert Whittaker vs. Yoel Romero

Robbie Lawler -145 vs. Donald Cerrone +115

Fists of Fury

Remember how we all said UFC 211 was the most loaded card of the year? UFC 213 is here to take that crown. There’s a sick main event between bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko, but the most watchable fights come before that matchup.

The middleweight interim title scrap between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero is straight fire. Robert Whittaker was supposed to be the young gun who bit off more than he could chew against longtime contender Jacare Souza. Instead, the Aussie whipped the former Strikeforce champion and showed off some of the best boxing we’ve seen all year. Now, he’s facing the most explosive fighter in the division - Romero can render an opponent unrecognizable in an instant.

‘Fight of the Year’ is the bar that’s being set for Lawler vs. Cerrone. That’s not hyperbole - these guys have been two of the most exciting fighters in MMA for years. Now that Cerrone’s a welterweight, pairing him against Lawler AKA Go Out On Your Shield is a fan’s dream.

July 16, UFC Fight Night 113

Gunnar Nelson vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio

A Quiet Storm

An underrated matchup between two unheralded fighters, Nelson vs. Ponzinibbio is a matchup that will announce a new player at welterweight. Iceland’s Nelson was particularly impressive in his last matchup, using his Machida-like karate skills to pick apart a good striker in Alan Jouban. We already know how dangerous his submissions already are.

As for Ponzinibbio, the Brazilian with the unusually long surname has rattled off four straight wins, raising his octagon record to 8-2. Nelson is the upper-tier opponent he’s earned, and a win completely changes his outlook in the division.

July 22, UFC on FOX 25

Chris Weidman +120 vs. Kelvin Gastelum -140

The All-American’s Last Stand

With three straight losses, Weidman is out of the title picture. A fourth straight loss would be catastrophic. The UFC isn’t giving him an easy fight in Gastelum, whose been bringing thunder at middleweight. Gastelum’s speed and quick hands could give Weidman some problems, especially if the former champ can’t take him down.

July 29, UFC 214

Daniel Cormier +235 vs. Jon Jones -295

The GOAT is Back

This is bigger than a grudge match. It’s even bigger than the belt that will be up for grabs. The legacies of two of the best light heavyweights in UFC history are at stake. Daniel Cormier has beaten every opponent in his career save one: Jon “Bones” Jones. The title that DC holds will never truly be vindicated until he defeats the man who never lost it in battle.

Jones is the greatest fighter this sport has ever seen. But is he still the same after all that he’s been through? The drug use, the arrests, the PEDS suspension - there’s only so much that a man can deal with. Should he come back and take out DC, much of that goes away.
