UFC odds online: Get ready for a matchup between two high-level BJJ artists when former Bellator contender Ben Saunders (18-6-2, 9 KOs, 6 SUBs) and 31-year old Kenny Robertson (15-3, 4 KOs, 9 SUBs) square off at UFC on FOX 16.
The bout takes place on the prelim portion of UFC on FOX 16, so make sure to tune into FOX early to catch a potential chess match on the ground.
CURRENT ODDS
I’d expect our UFC on FOX 16 odds to peg Saunders as a solid favorite – somewhere in the minus-175 range – as he’s bigger and much more experienced that Robertson. Since lines are subject to daily updates, these could swing as more bets come in. I’d expect the over/under in this three-rounder to be set at 2.5 rounds.
A BRIEF BREAKDOWN
After a 10-fight stint in Bellator, Saunders was called back up to the UFC in August and submitted Chris Heatherly with a rare omoplata at UFC Fight Night 49. The veteran returned to beat Joe Riggs via injury TKO at UFC on FOX 13. He was then tabbed to face Erick Silva in March, but had to withdraw due to injury. Now the TUF 6 alum will go for his third straight win in Chicago.
Robertson should enjoy a homecourt advantage as an Illinois native, The submission specialist has won three straight fights, two of which have come by first-round stoppage. Since losing by majority decision to Sean Pierson at UFC 161, Robertson tapped out Thiago Perpetuo via rear-naked choke in hostile Brazilian territory, decisioned Ildemar Alcantara and most recently knocked out Sultan Aliev at UFC on FOX 14.
This should be a good matchup between two fringe top-15 guys. Saunders is the better known fighter, having competed on The Ultimate Fighter, but Robertson has been sneaky good since entering the UFC. A win over Saunders would put Robertson on the map and in line for a possible shot at main card fight in the near future.
FIGHT PICKER
At 6’3”, Saunders towers over the 5’10” Robertson. The American Top Team Orlando rep also is the better striker, as evidenced by his 9 KOs. While Saunders retains a very good ground game, he has a clearer path to victory if he keeps this on the feet and picks apart the shorter Robertson. Saunders isn’t a particularly powerful puncher, but I think an accumulation of hits leads to a third-round TKO.
