UFC betting online: It’s been about a year and a half since we’ve seen heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (13-1, 11 KOs) in action, but the Mexican-American is finally set to step back into the octagon to face No. 1 contender Fabricio Werdum (19-5, 6 KOs, 9 SUBs).
Werdum recently was awarded the interim belt after beating Mark Hunt at UFC 180, and he’ll be looking to unifiy the titles against the baddest man on the planet.

Velasquez has absolutely dominated the heavyweight division since his UFC debut in 2008. Sure, he got caught with a flash knockout punch courtesy of Junior dos Santos, but he brutalized the Brazilian twice to more than earn his payback. What sets Cain apart from the rest of the pack is his cardio, which he’s basically weaponized at this point.
Simply put, the champion forces a pace that puts lightweights to shame. The guy just does not slow down and he can go five rounds easy. He combines that unstoppable motor with good technical boxing, elite wrestling and the most savage ground and pound in the game. Velasquez specializes in breaking the will of his opponents with relentless aggression.
At 37 years old, Werdum’s chances of pulling off an upset are slim. Even though he’s honed his standup game to the point where it’s nearly as dangerous as his world-class jiu-jitsu, the Brazilian is going to have serious problem with Cain’s pace. I just don’t see him mounting enough offense over the course of five rounds to dethrone the champion.

It may take him a round or two to shake off the ring rust, but if he’s the same fighter he was before his injuries, there’s nobody in the world that survive his onslaught. Werdum’s only real chance is that he’s facing a severely diminished Velasquez, and that’s a scary proposition to bet on. The pick here is Velasquez to win by TKO in the fourth.
