UFC betting online: Jessica Aguilar - 19-4, 2 KOs, 8 SUBs -, considered by many as the top women’s strawweight fighter in the world, will make her UFC debut against Brazilian Claudia Gadelha - 12-1, 2 KOs, 6 SUBs - at UFC 190 in Brazil.
The winner of the fight is expected to earn a shot at champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who bested Gadelha in a razor thin decision at UFC on FOX 13.
CURRENT ODDS
Check our UFC 190 odds for the latest Aguilar-Gadelha money lines, and expect them to be close. I’d think the oddsmakers would favor Gadelha’s strength and athleticism, but an argument could be made for Aguilar’s experience and tenacity to put her in favorite territory. The over/under is likely to be set at 2.5 rounds.
FIGHT OF THE NIGHT?
Gadelha showcased off-the-charts athleticism in an exciting, back-and-forth encounter with now-champion Jedrzejczyk. She could very well be the strongest fighter in the division, and has a world championship background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. All that’s left is for her striking to catch up to her ground game. Still, at age 26, she’s poised to be a serious contender in the title picture for years to come.
Aguilar signed with the WSOF in 2013 and immediately captured the inaugural strawweight title by tapping out Alida Gray. She defended it twice with decisions over Emi Fujino and Kalindra Faria, capping off a 10-fight win streak that carried her into the UFC. Other notable wins include a split decision over former champion Carla Esparza and two wins over Megumi Fujii, who was at one point considered the best women’s 115-pounder.
While the headlining Ronda Rousey is getting all the attention, I think this fight is a dark horse Fight of the Night candidate. Gadelha launches all-out assaults on opponents to get fights to the ground, and it’ll be interesting to see how Aguilar responds. I expect a ton of entertaining scrambles and high-level BJJ in this one.
FIGHT ANALYSIS + PICK
Aguilar is a great fighter, but she hasn’t faced anyone with Gadelha’s physicality. Like Rousey, Gadelha is a savage, overwhelming opponents with brute strength and bullying her way into painful submissions. The former WSOF champion is a game opponent, but Gadelha and Joanna Champion appear to be on another level in terms of physical tools. “Claudinha” will wear down Aguilar and break her will en route to a third-round submission.
