UFC odds online: Neither Daron Cruickshank (16-6, 9 KOs, 1 SUB) or James Krause (21-7, 6 KOs, 13 SUBs) should feel safe during their bout at UFC on FOX 16.
With both men relegated to Fight Pass – which is like a death sentence to fighters searching for a wider audience – there’s plenty of reasons to fight like their jobs are on the line. The winner will hopefully graduate from the streaming service onto a prelim in the near future.
CURRENT ODDS
Our online UFC on FOX 16 odds will likely list Cruickshank as the favorite as the more experienced fighter with a better record against higher competition. It’s possible that Krause could be as much as a plus+200 underdog. The over/under is typically listed a few days before fight night, so check back if you’re not seeing it. I’d expect it to be set at 2.5 rounds, with the under being a slightly more expensive play.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
The 30-year old Cruickshank first joined the UFC after briefly appearing on TUF 15. However, the Michigan Top Team rep has struggled as of late, losing back-to-back fights to K.J. Noons and Beneil Dariush leading up to this bout. Cruickshank peaked with a 3-1 run that included wins over Erik Koch and Anthony Njokuani.
Krause is also coming off consecutive losses, failing in decisions against Jorge Masvidal and most recently Valmir Lazaro. Since winning his UFC debut in spectacular fashion by submitting Sam Stout for Performance of the Night honors, the Missouri native has gone just 1-3. The 29-year finds himself in a must-win situation, with little reason to keep him around should he lose three straight.
FIGHT PICKER
Cruickshank is the more experienced UFC fighter, although Krause has more pro fights overall. This is an intriguing matchup between a submission specialist in Krause and a striker like Cruickshank. I’m inclined to lean towards Cruickshank, as he’s shown good takedown defense over the years versus Krause’s paltry 16% takedown accuracy.
I see Cruickshank making his way inside and taking the fight to Krause, who will struggle to take this fight to the ground. From the pocket, Cruickshank should be able to score enough damage to win this fight on rounds.
