UFC betting online: Nobody quite lives up to the “I’ll fight anyone, any time” attitude like Donald Cerrone (27-6, 4 KOs, 15 SUBs).
Originally tabbed to face fellow contender Khabib Nurmagomedov in a perceived title eliminator, “Cowboy” now faces a relative unknown in John Makdessi (13-3, 9 KOs), who steps in as an injury replacement for the Dagestani fighter. While Cerrone has nothing to gain in the win and a title shot to lose, he’s got no complaints. This is business as usual.
Check Bookmaker’s UFC 187 odds for the latest money lines on each fighter, and expect Cerrone to be a huge favorite going into the bout. Not only is Makdessi half as decorated as Cowboy, he’ll be stepping in on just a few weeks notice. The over/under in this three-rounder will likely be 1.5 rounds at close to pick’em odds.
So who is John Makdessi? He’s a Canadian striker with an impressive 9 KOs in his 13 victories. He’s 4-1 in his past five, with notable wins over…um, Sam Stout and Daron Cruickshank? While Makdessi trains at a top-notch gym in Tristar, he’s largely been a prelim fighter throughout his UFC career.
On the other hand, Cerrone is riding a seven-fight winning streak, with wins over guys like former champion Benson Henderson, Myles Jury, Eddie Alvarez, Jim Miller and Edson Barboza. All those vanquished opponents are better than anyone Makdessi’s faced. And while Cerrone is known as an awesome kickboxer, he’s actually got 15 submissions to 4 KOs. He’s one of the most offensively talented guys in the game, even though he’s known to start slow.
If you bet on Cerrone-Makdessi with Bookmaker’s UFC odds, this fight is almost a sure win for Cerrone. Cowboy knows that his status could take a serious hit with a loss to Makdessi, and he’ll be looking to take care of business against a guy he should dominate. Anything less than an easy victory would be a disappointment. The pick here is Cerrone by submission in the second round.
