UFC Odds Online: Lorenz Larkin and Santiago Ponzinibbio to scrap at UFC Fight Night 70

UFC betting online: Lorenz Larkin (15-4, 9 KOs) will look to build on the success of his welterweight debut in a tilt against Argentine prospect Santiago Ponzinibbio (19-2, 11 KOs, 5 SUBs).

After losing three straight in 2014, Larkin dropped to 170 and beat John Howard via first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night earlier this year. With a win over Ponzinibbio, Larkin could establish himself as a fighter to watch in the division.

Full fight odds are typically posted at the beginning of fight week, depending on the magnitude of the event. This fight is going to be tough for oddsmakers to set a money line for, but I’d expect Larkin to be a slight favorite.

Prior to the UFC, Larkin was one of Strikeforce’s most consistent fighters, notching wins over Gian Villante and Robbie Lawler, who currently holds UFC welterweight belt. However, his UFC stint as a middleweight was dismal, as he went 1-4 with losses to Francis Carmont, Brad Tavares, Costas Phillipou and Derek Brunson. Neither of those guys are anything but mid-card fighters. In danger of being cut, Larkin has now dropped to 170 in hopes of revitalizing his career.

Ponzinibbio has won his past two, with a KO over Wendell de Olieveira Marques in September 2014 and a unanimous decision against Sean Strickland this past February. He spent a lot of time on the Brazilian regional circuit, at one point notching six straight finishes. At 28, the Team Nogueira/American Top Team product has an opportunity to beat a respected fighter and go from relative unknown to intriguing prospect.

If you bet on Larkin vs. Ponzinibbio, I slightly favor Ponzinibbio. While Larkin is mostly a boxer-wrestler, Ponzinibbio is more dynamic on the feet and on the mat. We don’t know how good he can be, but his ceiling appears to be very high. Larkin is a good fighter, but Ponzinibbio has shown flashes of top-10 ability so far, and that puts him on a different level. The pick here is Ponzinibbio to win by a submission in the third round.
