UFC betting online: Unheralded submission specialist Leandro Issa - 13-4, 1 KOs, 9 SUBs - has an opportunity to move into the UFC’s top-15 when he faces Iuri Alcantara - 31-6, 13 KOs, 12 SUBs - at UFC 190 in Brazil.
Currently ranked No. 12 by the organization, Alcantara is by far the toughest opponent that the 31-year old Issa has faced so far in his career. The bout is likely to take place on the prelim portion of the card.
CURRENT ODDS
Our UFC 190 odds should have Alcantara as the favorite going into the fight as he’s vastly more experienced in the octagon than Issa. I’d expect the over/under to be set at 2.5 rounds with the over being a slight favorite. Prop bets are usually released on fight nights, although they’re usually reserved for the card’s biggest fight.
NO-WIN SITUATION FOR IURI
Alcantara has quietly become one of the UFC’s better bantamweights, compiling a 7-3 UFC record with one no contest. However, losses to guys like Hacran Dias and perennial contender Urijah Faber show that he’s not quite an elite fighter in the division. Most recently, he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Frankie Saenz at UFC Fight Night 61. A consecutive loss to an unknown fighter like Issa would be devastating for the vet.
Since tapping out to Russell Doane in his UFC debut, Issa has bounced back with back-to-back submission wins over Jumableke Tuerxun and Yuta Sasaki. The former One FC fighter could make a leap in the rankings with a win over a respected vet like Alcantara, but that might prove difficult for a one-dimensional fighter like Issa. However, his world-class jiu-jitsu has proved to be the great equalizer thus far.
For Alcantara, this is a fight that he’s expected to win, but Issa represents a tough out due to his advanced grappling skills. If Iuri is anything less than impressive in victory, it could be argued as a setback for a guy that’s earned a No. 13 ranking from the UFC.
FIGHT ANALYSIS + PICK
This is a favorable fight for Alcantara, whose well-rounded skills should tip the scales in his favor against a guy like Issa, who’s shown that his standup is rudimentary at best. Iuri will want to keep this fight on the feet at all cost, but is competent enough on the mat to survive short excursions to the ground. I see the vet sticking Issa with combinations for the better part of three rounds, earning enough points to win a unanimous decision victory.
