UFC betting online: Out of nowhere, women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (10-0, 4 KOs, 1 SUB) has become one of the UFC’s fastest rising stars. But it’s more than the fact that she’s winning, it’s how she’s doing it. She took the belt from Carla Esparza in a matchup that wasn’t even close.
Then she destroyed a good fighter in Jessica Penne in her first title defense. Are we looking at the second coming of Ronda Rousey? There’s a few fighters that would beg to differ.
Currently, there’s an unofficial No. 1 contender matchup scheduled between Claudia Gadelha (12-1) and Jessica Aguilar (19-4) at UFC 190. Both women would fare far better than Esparza or Penne did. So what would their odds be in the Bookmaker UFC sportsbook? Let’s do some projections.
Possible Matchup: Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Claudia Gadelha
Projected Bookmaker UFC odds: Jedrzejczyk at minus-120, Gadelha at plus+105
The first time these two met, Joanna Champion escaped with a razor-thin split decision victory. To be honest, the fight could have gone either way. What probably swung the judges was the fact that Joanna floored Gadelha in the first round with a vicious uppercut. However, the rest of the fight was extremely close, with Gadelha taking down the future champ to some success and Jedrzejczyk winning the standup battle.
Gadelha’s strength, athleticism and commitment to the clinch obviously gave Joanna some problems, and the 26-year old is already very familiar with the champ’s game plan. Another fight between them would be undoubtedly close.
Possible Matchup: Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Aguilar
Projected Bookmaker UFC odds: Jedrzejczyk at minus-140, Aguilar at plus+130
Aguilar has long been considered the best women’s strawweight outside the UFC, but that’s about to change with her upcoming UFC debut against Gadelha. She’s racked up a five-year, 10-fight win streak which includes wins over Carla Esparza, Lisa Ellis and Megumi Fujii (twice). That’s an extremely impressive resume for a fighter that’s been in the game for much longer than Jedrzejczyk or Gadelha.
However, while Aguilar has been piling up the wins, she hasn’t been particularly dominant. She doesn’t have the world-class striking of the champ, nor the top-notch BJJ game of Gadelha. Of course, these projected odds are contingent on how she performs against Gadelha. A great showing against the Brazilian and oddsmakers could be forced to make a match against Joanna at nearly pick’em odds.
