UFC betting online: Everybody loves rankings, and we’ve got a new list to add to the divisional and pound-for-pound rankings.
Today we’re looking at the UFC Champion Power Rankings. It answers one question: Who is the most dominant UFC champion today? It measures how far ahead a champion is ahead of the pack in their respective division, and I’m pretty sure you can guess who takes the number one spot.
No. 1: Ronda Rousey - women’s bantamweight
Next fight: Miesha Tate, TBA
Contenders: Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, Cris Justino, Cat Zingano
After starching Bethe Correia in 34 seconds at UFC 190, Rousey continues to embarrass everyone else in her weight class. With the exception of Justino, there doesn’t seem to be anyone who can give her much of a test, and the separation between her and the rest of the division is ridiculous.
No. 2: Demetrious Johnson – men’s flyweight
Next fight: John Dodson at UFC 191
Current odds: Johnson at minus-450, Dodson at plus+350
Contenders: Joe Benavidez, Jussier Formiga, Henry Cejudo
Like Rousey, Johnson has the benefits of fighting in an extremely thin division at flyweight. However, he’s distanced himself from everyone else with perhaps the best all-around game in the sport. Dodson is considered his biggest challenge, and he’s a currently more than a 3-to-1 underdog against Mighty Mouse.
No. 3: T.J. Dillashaw – men’s bantamweight
Next fight: TBA
Contenders: Dominick Cruz, Raphael Assuncao, Renan Barao
Dillashaw once again destroyed Renan Barao this past July. In doing so, he elevated his stock to the point where there doesn’t seem to be anyone in his division that could test him. Only Dominick Cruz is left as a realistic foil to his supremacy.
No. 4: Chris Weidman – men’s middleweight
Next fight: Luke Rockhold, TBA
Contenders: Rockhold, Ronaldo Souza, Yoel Romero
Weidman is still undefeated, but his upcoming fight with Rockhold is a real threat. However, there are only a handful of men who seem to have what it takes to beat the champ. So he’ll be in the mix for a while.
No. 5: Joana Jedrzejczyk – women’s strawweight
Next fight: Claudia Gadelha, TBA
Contenders: Claudia Gadelha, Rose Namajunas
Joanna Champion laid a beatdown on Carla Esparza to take the belt, then opened up another can of you-know-what on the respected Jessica Penne in her first defense. There’s only one girl in the division that appears to be on her level, Claudia Gadelha. But the chances that Gadelha beats her are so high that we have to knock down the champ a few spots.
No. 6: Daniel Cormier – men’s light heavyweight
Next fight: Alexander Gustaffson, UFC 192
Current odds: Cormier at minus-300, Gustaffson at plus+250
Contenders: Anthony Johnson, Ryan Bader
Without Jon Jones, Cormier is unquestionably the best in the world at 205. The light heavyweight division is thinning rapidly, and it’s hard to see DC losing to anyone in the current top-5, like Bader, Teixeira or Saint Preux right now.
No. 7: Robbie Lawler – men’s middleweight
Next fight: Carlos Condit, TBA
Contenders: Rory MacDonald, Tyron Woodley, Johny Hendricks
It seems as if any of the top four contenders could beat Lawler on any given night, but the fact remains that Lawler already owns wins over three of them, Carlos Condit, Johny Hendricks and Rory MacDonald – twice.
No. 8: Fabricio Werdum – men’s heavyweight
Next fight: TBA
Contenders: Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos, Stipe Miocic
Werdum’s hold on the strap seems tenuous, as many would probably pick Velasquez in a rematch and he already lost to JDS a few years back. But after the top three, the drop-off in talent is steep, and Werdum is far ahead of that tier.
No. 9: Rafael dos Anjos – men’s lightweight
Next fight: TBA
Contenders: Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone, Khabib Nurmagomedov
This is the UFC’s deepest division, and the top-10 is stacked with guys that could give dos Anjos a run for his money. Dos Anjos can’t get too comfortable at the top.
