UFC Odds Online: Three major questions that will be answered at UFC 189: Aldo vs. McGregor

Missing-Storylines.ac

UFC betting online: With UFC 189 expected to be the biggest event of the year – and possibly UFC history – there’s plenty of intriguing storylines going into fight night.

Naturally, most of them have to do with the two title fights at the top of the card. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest questions going into fight night.

Question: Is Conor McGregor for real?

Oddsmakers certainly believe that the Irishman is a true threat. Currently, Bookmaker’s online UFC 189 odds have McGregor as a plus+107 underdog, with Aldo a slight favorite at minus-127. That’s nearly pick’em odds for a 28-year old champion that hasn’t lost in nearly 10 years and is riding an 18-fight winning streak going into the matchup.

So far, McGregor has backed up his bold words with destructive wins over very good competition, but Aldo is far and away the best fighter he’s ever faced.

Question: Can Aldo fight aggressive?

While Aldo is one of the most powerful, explosive athletes ever to grace the octagon, his bouts have increasingly gone to the final bell – frustrating many fans who feel that he could have easily finished many of his fights. Perhaps the champ has grown cautious over the years, not wanting to put his legacy at stake. Whatever the case, Aldo no longer seems to be the killer that he once was.

Maybe McGregor’s constant tormenting over the past months will unleash the beast inside Aldo. But knowing the champion, the over in Bookmaker’s UFC 189 online odds seems like a safe bet.

Question: Is the Rory MacDonald era upon us?

Bookmaker’s UFC 189 odds have MacDonald as a minus-200 favorite over Lawler, whose money line is plus+170. That’s not a misprint – the champ is a significant underdog to the challenger. Since entering the UFC as a 20-year old in 2010, experts have pegged MacDonald as a future champion. Now, at 25, MacDonald seems to have put it all together, and has all the tools to beat Robbie Lawler and fulfill his promise.

However, Lawler might own a mental edge over MacDonald, having beaten him in a tough split decision in November 2013.

Question: Can Robbie Lawler continue his miracle run?

Robbie Lawler might be the most unlikely champion in the UFC. Having been cut from the promotion all the way back in 2004, the American Top Team product toiled for years as an upper-level fighter in smaller MMA joints such as KOTC, Icon Sport and Elite XC. In Strikeforce, he went 3-5 as a middleweight and appeared done as an elite fighter. However, since coming back to the UFC in 2013, Lawler has gone 6-1 as a welterweight, with wins over Rory MacDonald, Jake Ellenberger, Matt Brown and Johny Hendricks.

At 33 years old, Lawler has finally reached the pinnacle of the sport. Now, the question is whether he can sustain it with a huge target on his back.
