While he recently snapped a four-fight losing streak with a win over Antonio Silva this past February, nobody should get their hopes up for a sudden resurgence from Mir.
On the other hand, Duffee’s career path is pointing upwards. The knockout artist is two fights into his second stint with his UFC and has notched first-round KOs in both of those bouts. However, he’ll be taking a big step up in competition when he steps into the cage with Mir, whose credentials far outshine the guys he’s faced thus far.
This all boils down to how much Mir has left in the tank. Frankly, he’s looked like a shell of his former self. While he’s still one of the best groundfighters at heavyweight, he lacks the wrestling chops to take more athletic opponents to the ground. We haven’t really seen Duffee in a five-round grind though, so it’s possible that the heavily muscled fighter wears down significantly late.
