UFC odds online: Fresh off a Fight of the Night bout in April, light heavyweight Gian Villante (13-5, 8 KOs, 2 SUBs) will return to the ring to meet Tom Lawler (9-5, 3 KOs, 4 SUBs) at UFC on FOX 16.

The two are slated to clash on the prelims, which will be televised on FOX. The bout marks Lawlor’s first fight in over two years, the longest of his career.

CURRENT ODDS

Check our UFC on FOX 16 odds for the latest money lines on Lawler-Villante, and expect Lawlor to be the favorite. Given Villante’s middling career, I’d expect him to be around a plus+200 underdog. The over/under is typically listed a few days before fight night, so keep checking our daily updates for the latest. I’d expect it to be at 2.5 rounds at nearly pick’em odds.

TRAINING WITH CHAMPIONS

Villante is notably the primary training partner of UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, who has dominated the 185-pound class as of late. While Weidman was training for his bout with Vitor Belfort at UFC 187, Villante stated his desire to turn the sessions into his own fight camps. Matchmaker Joe Silva granted his wish, pitting the KO artist against a veteran in Lawlor.

Lawlor is 3-4 in his past seven bouts and is struggling to tread water at 185. The Jungle MMA representative suffered disappointing losses to midcard fighters like Aaron Simpson, Joe Doerkson and Francis Carmont. When matched up against then future-champion Chris Weidman, “Filthy” was thoroughly dismantled and submitted in the first round.

A loss here would be devastating for either fighter. For the largely unproven Villante, failing to beat a guy like Lawlor would send him tumbling down the divisional picture, even after his two-fight winning streak. For Lawlor, a defeat could send him packing from the UFC, as there are plenty of up-and-coming fighters that could fill his shoes on future prelims.

FIGHT PICKER

I just can’t pick against Villante, based almost solely on the fact that he trains daily with Chris Weidman. He’s two years younger than Lawlor, and two inches taller to boot. While he’s no Anderson Silva in the cage, Villante is a very good on the feet with above average power. Lawlor is adequate wrestler, but it’s tough to see him holding Villante down for three rounds. Villante should be able to stick-and-move his way to unanimous decision.
