UFC Odds Online: Tony Ferguson doesn’t appreciate Josh Thomson calling him a 'no-name'

UFC betting online: Top-15 lightweight Tony Ferguson (18-3, 9 KOs, 6 SUBs) isn’t too happy with Josh Thomson (20-7, 5 KOs, 9 SUBs), his UFC Fight Night 72 opponent.

Ever since their matchup was announced, Thomson has publicly expressed his displeasure of the pairing, campaigning for fights against bigger name fighters instead. Unsurprisingly, Ferguson is taking it personally.

CURRENT ODDS

Our UFC Fight Night 71 odds have Ferguson as nearly a 2-to-1 favorite, with a minus-195 money line. Thomson is currently listed at plus+165. The over/under is likely to be set at 2.5 rounds at nearly pick’em odds.

PUT UP OR SHUT UP

Although Thomson is just 2-4 in his past six fights, “The Punk” somehow believes he’s owed better opponents. Ironically, Ferguson sits above Thomson in most media outlet rankings. That hasn’t stopped him from taking to Twitter to voice his desire to fight bigger fish like Eddie Alvarez or Gilbert Melendez.

Ferguson isn’t amused. “I was thrilled to get the assignment at first, but he’s being a punk, man,” Ferguson told MMAJunkie radio. “I just don’t think he’s giving me the consideration I deserve..he’s saying I’m a nobody and he doesn’t know who I am. The dude knows who I am, and he’s probably going to punk out of this fight. I hope he doesn’t, but if he does, it’ll give me the No. 8 or No. 7 spot.”

There’s no reason for Thomson to be overlooking Ferguson, who’s riding a five-fight winning streak. Most recently, Ferguson scored a first-round submission over Gleison Tibau, a highly respected vet with 23 fights in the UFC. That’s an extremely impressive notch on the belt for the 31-year old, who looks poised to make a run at the division’s elite.

FIGHT PREDICTION

If you bet on Thomson vs. Ferguson with our UFC Fight Night 71 odds, I actually like Ferguson to take this one. He’s five years younger than Thomson, two inches taller, and every bit as quick as The Punk. Both men prefer to stand and trade, and if that’s the case in this bout I am a huge fan of Ferguson’s lightning quick punches in bunches.

Thomson is a tough out for anyone in the division, but “El Cucuy” has the talent to be a top-5 lightweight. The pick to win is Ferguson by unanimous decision.
