UFC betting online: It’s time for another round of armchair oddsmaking for some of the biggest fights that the UFC could put together. We’re talking about superfights – the elusive matchups that would transcend the sport and put MMA in the national spotlight on fight night.
These are all matchups that face big obstacles, like weight class or promotional affiliation, but damn they are fun to speculate on.
Superfight: Jon Jones vs. Junior Dos Santos
Projected odds: Jones at minus-250, Dos Santos at plus+190
Nearly any fight pitting the former light heavyweight champion against a heavyweight would be a superfight, but only Dos Santos could offer the elite technical striking and granite chin to challenge Jones in a standup war. For years, the Brazilian slugger has carried a top-3 heavyweight ranking and the title of best boxer in the division.
It’d be awesome to see how Dos Santos’ power and speed would match up against the creativity and range of Jones. And although they stand eye-to-eye, Dos Santos has a much broader frame, giving him the size advantage. But Bones is a far better wrestler with a bigger bag of tricks, which is why he’d be favored in our UFC odds.
Superfight: Conor McGregor vs. Anthony Pettis
Projected odds: McGregor at minus-170, Pettis at plus+150
Who wouldn’t want to see a fight between two of the most flashiest and athletic strikers in the UFC? Both Pettis and McGregor possess electrifying kicking games, and that’s reason enough to put them in the octagon together. The Irishman is known for throwing everything and anything, from crescent kicks to spinning back kicks to hook kicks. Pettis can be summed up with his legendary “Showtime” kick, when ran up the wall like a ninja to plant his foot on Benson Henderson’s face.
If the current featherweight champ and the former lightweight champ ever meet, we could realistically expect a reenactment of The Matrix.
Superfight: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brock Lesnar
Projected odds: Lesnar at minus-200, Emelianenko at plus+160
The heavyweight GOAT set the MMA community abuzz with the announcement that he has begun training with the aim to come out of retirement. There is perhaps nobody in the world with greater mystique than the stoic, doughy Russian who reigned supreme in the heavyweight division for 10 years. But Lesnar, with his hulking frame and WWE credentials, come close.
Lesnar carries all the physical advantages, outweighing the Russian by nearly 50 pounds combined with a superhero physique compared to Lesnar’s pudgy frame. But “The Last Emperor” is no stranger to size mismatches, and part of his aura has to do with the fact that he always finds a way to win.
