UFC Odds Online: Undefeated Paul Felder gets the call against Edson Barboza at UFC on FOX 16

UFC betting online: UFC veteran Edson Barboza (15-3, 10 KOs, 1 SUB) will look to hand Philadelphia’s Paul Felder (10-0, 7 KOs) his first loss when the two square up at UFC on FOX 16.

With Barboza’s original opponent, Myles Jury, withdrawing due to injury, Felder will have about a month to train for the biggest fight of his career. Ironically, Barboza was originally a replacement for former champion Anthony Pettis, who also withdrew due to injury.

CURRENT ODDS

Barboza will be the likely favorite in our online UFC odds, in the minus-190 range. The Brazilian has quietly been one of the better lightweights, taking the No. 7 spot in the UFC rankings. The over/under is typically listed a few days before fight night, so keep checking back in for daily updates. I’d expect it to be set at 2.5 rounds, with the under as the slightly more expensive bet – these are some power punchers going to bat.

FEELING FELDER

There’s always some interest with undefeated fighters like Felder. Coming out of a good fight team with Renzo Gracie Philly, “The Irish Dragon” has notched seven KOs in his 10 victories. However, he hasn’t really faced anyone of note, beating middling UFC lightweights in Jason Saggo and Danny Castillo. He did turn a few heads against Castillo, notching a spectacular spinning backfist KO at UFC 182.

Barboza is a familiar face at lightweight, hanging around the top-10 for a few years now. The Brazilian has long been a fighter brimming with potential, but has failed to break into the division’s elite. Most recently, he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 61 in Feburay. But in his three-plus years in the octagon, he’s notched some good wins against guys like Terry Etim, Evan Dunham and Bobby Green.

This is an intriguing matchup between two athletic guys that love to trade leather and a dark horse candidate for Fight of the Night. Barboza has settled in nicely as a gatekeeper to the top-15, and should Felder get past him, it would put the unranked fighter on the map in a crowded lightweight division.

FIGHT PICKER

There really isn’t that much to go on with Felder, who only has two UFC fights to go with a handful of fights in regional promotions. At 30-years old, he still has some time to round into form and comes into this bout with far more tread on the tires than Barboza, who has been in a few wars.

But Barboza is the far more experienced fighter and still a year younger at 29. The only guys that beat him are the top-tier guys, and Felder isn’t on that level yet. This is too much, too soon for the Philly native, and Barboza will expose him with a second-round TKO.
