UFC odds that make you go 'hmm', starting with Jose Aldo

Good-upcoming-underdogs---Luke-Rockhold.ac

Betting on the MMA fight game is different from simply being a fan. That’s because gamblers aren’t just looking at the next big card, but also future fights that have advantageous money lines. With BookMaker’s daily updates, things can even out pretty quickly as action comes in.

And that’s why we’re looking at the entire MMA odds section and pointing out a few interesting underdog plays for you.

DECEMBER 12, UFC 194

Jose Aldo +145 vs. Conor McGregor -175

Nobody in the featherweight champion has looked more dominant recently than interim champion Conor McGregor. He’s steamrolled every opponent the UFC has put in front of him, and that includes former No. 1 contender Chad Mendes. But in his win over Mendes, he was exposed in a few ways that Aldo could exploit. First, he was taken down with ease by an exhausted Mendes. Secondly, he showed way too much confidence in his chin, dropping his hands and walking straight into some big shots by his opponent.

Aldo isn’t an elite wrestler like Mendes is, but he doesn’t have to be if McGregor doesn’t improve his takedown defense. Also, if he dares drops his hands against Aldo, there’s no way he can withstand the champ’s vicious Muay Thai.

OCTOBER 24, UFC FIGHT NIGHT 76

Dustin Poirier +175 vs. Joseph Duffy -225

“Irish” Joe Duffy might be benefitting from the fact that he’s won his last four fights by stoppage, and his past three came in the first round. Also, he’s the last man to beat superstar Conor McGregor, who looks like a legitimate top contender. But that win came all the way back in 2010, and McGregor is not the same fighter he is now.

Poirier is just 26 years old with 13 fights in the UFC, and he’s also a guy that earned his way into the top 10 at both featherweight and lightweight. He’s somewhat vulnerable to big shots, but he’s athletic, experienced and still improving. While he’ll be fighting in Dublin against a hostile crowd, he’s an awesome value as a nearly 2-to-1 underdog.

NOVEMBER 14, UFC 193

Antonio Silva +180 vs. Mark Hunt -215

The first time these two heavyweights met, they fought to a bloody draw. So tell me why Silva is such a hefty underdog? Hunt is coming off the worst beating of his career, where he was brutalized by Stipe Miocic for five rounds before he was stopped in the last frame. Silva’s chin is far more fragile than Hunt’s, but he’s five years younger than the 41-year old Kiwi and nearly half a foot taller. This one should be a toss-up, and if you’re feeling lucky Silva can net you close to a 100% return on investment.

DECEMBER 12, UFC 194

Luke Rockhold +135 vs. Chris Weidman -165

I think Chris Weidman is in for the fight of his life against Rockhold. The champion has looked superb in his title defenses, but consider who they came against: twice against an over-the-hill Anderson Silva, a post-TRT 38-year old Vitor Belfort, and a 37-year old Lyoto Machida. But now, he faces a fighter in the prime of his career, who matches up with Weidman’s impressive size and athleticism. What’s more, Rockhold is the more dynamic striker of the two, and if he can keep this fight on the feet he will give the champion a ton of problems.
