Full disclosure: this article was inspired by welterweight champion Tyron Woodley - who simultaneously infuriated fans and put them to sleep for a second straight title defense. T-Wood committed the crime of being a boring fighter, exacerbated by the fact that he is the champ.

It raised the question of who the most boring champs are in the UFC, which conversely led to the question of who the most exciting titleholders are. Today, we’re looking at the top three in both categories. Make sure to check for UFC odds at BookMaker.eu for any and all upcoming title fights!

THE MOST EXCITING CHAMPIONS
1. Conor McGregor
Lightweight Champion

Next Fight: TBD

Love him or hate him, McGregor knows how to put on a show. His timing, movement, pinpoint accuracy and one-punch KO power have combined to lay waste to a trail of great fighters. And he does it with so much swag - nobody has ever styled on Eddie Alvarez the way he has.

But just as importantly, McGregor brings with him an electric atmosphere. Nothing adds to the excitement of a fight like a fired-up crowd, and the Irishman’s loyal fans give every matchup a larger-than-life feel.

2. Cristiane Justino
Women’s Bantamweight Champion

Next Fight: TBD

Can you remember any fight where “Cyborg” didn’t brutalize her opponent? While it’s sometimes hard to get excited about matchups where the outcome is never in doubt (see: Demetrious Johnson), Cyborg finishes opponents so violently that it never really gets boring.

The scary part of it is that the Brazilian is getting better. There isn’t a single featherweight in the world that can move and hit like Cyborg - and it’s not even close.

3. Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Women’s Strawweight

Next Fight: TBD

It was a tough choice between Jon Jones and J-Check, but the Polish powerhouse gets the nod because she consistently dishes out more damage in her fights. With Jedrzejczyk, it’s non-stop Muay Thai from start to finish, and her textbook striking always leaves ringside announcers marveling at her skills.

Combining a high pace, crisp punches and kicks and an obvious warrior mentality, it’s almost impossible for a Jedrzejczyk fight to be boring.

THE MOST BORING CHAMPIONS

1. Tyron Woodley
Welterweight Champion

Next Fight: TBD

Woodley is an easy pick for the top spot here, not just because how he fights, but because how he could fight. He’s easily the most explosive athlete at 170 pounds - a man who can finish fights with a single punch. Yet for whatever reason, Woodley seems to hold back in every fight. Instead of dominating opponents he seems to outclass, he’s merely content shut them down.

In his stinker against Demian Maia, Woodley helped set the UFC record for least amount of punches thrown in a fight. He didn’t attempt a single takedown, and I can’t even recall a single significant offensive flurry. Technically, it was a masterpiece. Visually, it was the equivalent of stabbing your eyeballs with Ambien.

2. Demetrious Johnson
Flyweight Champion

Next Fight: UFC 215, September 9

It’s not Johnson’s fault he’s so much better than the rest of the division. And he doesn’t cruise like Woodley either. So why is he on this list? Simple: he doesn’t make it that much fun to watch him completely dismantle his overmatched challengers.

Cyborg knocks girls out. J-Check beats them up. But Johnson’s beating his opponents is like watching a mathematician solve a complex formula - there’s a lot to appreciate, but not much to watch.

Michael Bisping
Middleweight Champion

Next Fight: TBD

Despite winning the championship by knockout, Bisping is a points fighter. He doesn’t have the pop to consistently put guys down, so he boxes from the perimeter and piles up points. To be honest, it’s not boring - but it’s not really must-see TV either.

What Bisping does have going for him is that he’s not good enough to dominate the top contenders in the division. That does lead to some close, back-and-forth encounters. But when it comes to finishing opponents, Bisping lacks the certain IT factor.
