UFC on FOX 17 is giving casual fans a few great reasons not to skip the prelims on FOX Sports 1.

Beside the prelim main event featuring two top-10 lightweights, the six scheduled lead-in fights feature a compelling assortment of ranked fighters. Let’s make some picks.

Please note, the following lines listed here may have changed, as BookMaker updates their odds on a daily basis.

Featherweights

Myles Jury

Charles Oliveira

Myles Jury will make a drop to featherweight and gets a stiff test right off the bat: uber-athletic Brazilian banger Charles Oliveira. Jury is coming off his only career loss, losing a unanimous decision to Donald Cerrone, who’s fighting for the title on the main card. Oliveira will look to bounce back from a bizarre TKO loss to Max Holloway, where he suffered a neck injury.

This is a bout that could easily be on the main card. Both Oliveira and Jury have the talent and physical tools to break into the top 10.

Welterweights

C.B. Dolloway

Nate Marquardt

Two relatively well-known middleweights in desperate need of a win square off in a fight to stay relevant. Marquardt, a former title challenger, is just 1-5 in his past six fights and is in danger of being cut from the roster. Dolloway has lost two in a row and is in the same position. The easy pick here is Dolloway as Marquardt just looks old and slow.

Women’s bantamweights

Sarah Kaufman

Germaine de Randamie

The No. 6 ranked Sarah Kaufman plays the gatekeeper role against an unheralded Germaine de Randamie. Kaufman had been vying for a higher profile bout against the likes of Miesha Tate or Bethe Correia, but will have to settle for a high risk, low-reward bout against the Dutch product.

Middleweights

Josh Samman

Tamdan McCrory

Josh Samman has quietly won all three of his UFC fights, and has picked up bonuses in his last two. McCrory returned from a five year hiatus in 2014 and picked up two first-round finishes in Bellator to earn his ticket back to the UFC. For Samman, winning four in a row would force the UFC to test him against a name opponent sooner than later. McCrory went 3-3 with the promotion from 2007-2009 and a win over a prospect like Samman would be a fine way to open his second stint in the UFC.

Lightweights

Nik Lentz

Danny Castillo

Team Alpha Male’s Danny Castillo has had the unfortunate luck of being paired against a murderer’s row of opponents in his past five fights, leading to a 1-4 record since 2013. Lentz isn’t too big of a dropoff as the No. 10 ranked fighter at featherweight. Another loss for Castillo would be disastrous, given the crowded state of the division.

Lightweights

Cole Miller

Jim Alers

Miller has spent eight years competing in the octagon, going 10-7 inside the UFC. He’s a respected, experienced veteran and still just 31 years old. Alers is a former Cage Warriors champion who had his nine-fight winning streak stopped this past February when he was knocked out by Chas Skelly. Beating an established fighter like Miller could make up for that in a big way.
