There’s a lot to love about Mike Perry, especially his one-punch machine gun power that has led to a 100% KO ratio in 11 career wins. And how he fights with swagger, mean mugs and talks a ton of trash. Of course, those last few things could be reasons to hate him too. But in a sport built on interesting characters, “Platinum” does have a certain “it” factor that makes him a fun watch.
This Saturday, Perry meets Argentine Santiago Ponzinibbio - another surging fighter with a hefty dose of punching power. Both are quickly climbing a loaded welterweight ladder, making this the most important fight of their careers.

Fight Breakdown
Both men fight aggressively, supremely confident in the concussive power of their fists. But Perry’s power is something else - he just might be the hardest puncher in the division. And he’s not shy about throwing either, landing nearly five strikes a minute and connecting at a 45% clip.
The stats do not tell the full story, however. It’s clear that Perry can knock anyone out with either hand, and he has just as much technique as he does power. Though he’s short for the division, Platinum can operate at different ranges. Obviously he is best when inside, but his explosiveness lets him cover distance quickly and slide out of counter range.
Perry’s headhunting methods overshadow his solid wrestling, as he is sound both offensively and defensively. While he’s not opposed to dishing out GNP, his wrestling is primarily used to sprawl-and-brawl. If opponents do not succeed in taking him down, they will usually eat some power shots on the break for their troubles.
Ponzinibbio is more of a kickboxer than Perry, but his best work does come with his fists. He is much more methodical in his approach, and imposes a higher pace than his opponent. While he lands less shots per minute, the Argentine does have the distinction of increasing his output and accuracy as the fight progresses.
In this matchup, Ponzinibbio will have to rely on his advanced footwork, as he doesn’t have the firepower to go shot-for-shot in a brawl against Perry. Alan Jouban was the only man to defeat Perry, and he did so by picking him apart with a patient, technical approach. Ponzinibbio has the tools to do the same.
UFC Betting Tips
Perry is a live ‘dog, and his price justifies a small play. While Ponzinibbio is the more measured striker, “Platinum” has the ability to force guys to brawl. In that scenario, this is a 50-50 match - so you might as well side with the underdog.
UFC Odds Pick: Perry to win at +160
