Soccer Odds - Mexico vs. Honduras Match Preview

2016-Soccer-Mexico-vs.-Honduras-Betting-Odds

Even though Honduras is very likely going to end up qualifying for the last stage of World Cup qualifying in CONCACAF, it will still be facing nervous moments if Canada happens to beat El Salvador in a match going on just a couple hours earlier. The last test in the fourth round comes at Mexico, a team trying to finish off a perfect qualifying campaign at 6-0-0.

This World Cup qualifying duel will go down Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 10 p.m. ET at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The match will be televised live on FOX Sports 1.

Odds Analysis

Mexico has to be considered the massive favorite here, knowing that it ultimately is the best team in CONCACAF and shouldn't have a problem getting to the World Cup. Sure, this fixture doesn't really mean anything, but there's something to be said about wrapping up this group of six matches without a single blemish.

El Tri are lined at -385 to take home the three points and are laying a goal and a half on the Asian Handicap.

Roster Analysis

We suspect the Mexicans are going to be asking a few younger players to be in this side in this match. Angel Sepulveda is an interesting name to watch. He scored against El Salvador on the road a few days ago for his very first goal in his first fixture on the national team, and he could have a bright future as a striker for the club. Also watch 21-year old Hirving Lozano, a man who plays for Pachuca and has gotten some looks from big clubs over in Europe.

The Honduran team is incredibly young as well, but there are three MLS players who are going to be playing crucial roles in this match. The captain of the team is Maynor Figueroa, a man who has played 131 matches for his country and is a leader for FC Dallas. In the midfield, Boniek Garcia of the Houston Dynamo and Roger Espinoza of Sporting Kansas City are the men to keep the closest eye on. Up front, Anthony Lozano is just 23 years old and already has six goals for his country, including one here in qualifying against El Salvador in March.

Recent Form

The story for Mexico has been simple here in qualifying for the World Cup. The team continues to play tight, compact soccer and dares teams to try to come forward against it. There's enough talent up front to take advantage of breakaways and odd man rushes, and the end result has been a 13-1 goal differential in the first five matches. El Tri took care of El Salvador 3-1 last Friday to improve to 5-0-0 in Group A.

Honduras still has much to play for, though it's entirely possible that there's nothing left to worry about by the time this one kicks off. In order for the Hondurans to not reach the Hex, they would have to lose to Mexico and Canada would have to beat El Salvador on Tuesday night, and the combination of the Honduras loss and the Mexico win would have to come by at least five goals. It's not likely that Canada can close that gap, especially knowing that it only has two goals scored in this competition to date, but if the team does get the three points, you can bet that Mexico would much rather be dealing with Canada than Honduras in the Hexagonal and will do what it can to eliminate this foe when it can.

Mexico might not be playing the most spirited side possible in this match, but we know that it's going to be asked to go forward and put on a good show regardless of what it ultimately means to Honduras.

Don't be surprised if the Hondurans end up playing incredibly tight in the end. We think they'll do enough to make sure they go through, but we're happy to lay this goal and a half.

World Cup Qualifying Odds: Mexico 3, Honduras 0
