Form pretty much held in Group A in the initial matches. PSG and Real Madrid were both dominant in their opening matches, winning 2-0 and 4-0 respectively. Cristiano Ronaldo broke the record for the most goals scored in a single career in the UCL with his hat trick in a span of less than a half hour to put away Shakhtar Donetsk. The only real question which seems to exist is whether it is going to be Donetsk or Malmo dropping into the Europa Cup as the third place finisher in this group.
ODDS TO WIN GROUP B
Wolfsburg +141 Manchester United +155 PSV Eindhoven +575 CSKA Moscow +765
Manchester United was the favorite in Group B before losing as a favorite on the road against PSV, the biggest underdog in the group at the outset. Wolfsburg still feels like the second best team in Group B, and though a 1-0 win over CSKA in the opening match wasn't the most impressive ever, matters could have been a lot worse.
ODDS TO WIN GROUP C
Atletico Madrid -333 Benfica +291 Galatarsaray +2300 Astana +25000
One match in and everything has gone according to form in Group C. Atletico Madrid and Benfica each won as 2-0 results. The Atleti will host Benfica on September 30 to decide which team will be at the head of Group C.
ODDS TO WIN GROUP D
Juventus -125 Manchester City +250 Sevilla +425 Borussia Monchengladbach +2500
Juventus fired the first salvo in Group D, winning on the road at Man City to become the odds on favorite to win this group. Sevilla certainly isn't out of the question as the winner of this group either after beating up Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0. Still, this is definitively the "Group of Death," and all four of these teams are capable of beating each other.
ODDS TO WIN GROUP E
Barcelona -345 AS Roma +525 Beyer Leverkusen +650 BATE Borisov +50000
AS Roma manager Rudi Garcia said that it was going to take "a miracle" to beat Barcelona in the opening match of Group E. It wasn't quite a miracle, but getting one point in that duel at home was a stunner. Still, Barca is the easy favorite to win Group E in spite of that mild trip up, knowing that there shouldn't be a point lost anywhere along the way at home. Beyer Leverkusen actually leads this group, but it has already used the easiest match of the bunch against BATE Borisov at home.
ODDS TO WIN GROUP F
Bayern Munich -909 Arsenal +633 Olympiakos +5500 Dinamo Zagreb +6500
Bayern Munich might be unbeatable in Group F. The fact that it already went on the road and beat Olympiakos, a place where giants have been killed before, and won 3-0 was a big statement. Arsenal is really the only other legit possibility in Group F, but any result aside from the runner up in Group F would be a shock even after the Gunners were beaten by Dinamo Zagreb on the road last week.
ODDS TO WIN GROUP G
Chelsea -385 Porto +333 Dynamo Kiev +2300 Maccabi Tel-Aviv +25000
Chelsea crushed Maccabi Tel-Aviv to kick off its Champions League campaign, but we still aren't sold that the Blues are going to walk away with Group G. With Porto drawing at Dynamo Kiev, the opportunity is still going to be there for it to take a lead in this group if it can knock off Chelsea at home on September 29.
ODDS TO WIN GROUP H
Zenit St. Petersburg +100 Valencia +247 Lyon +300 Gent +3000
Here's the wild card group of the bunch. Every second place finisher in the groups are going to pray to get paired with the winner of Group H in the knockout rounds. Zenit St. Petersburg drew first blood by upsetting Valencia after blowing a 2-0 lead to get all three points on Spanish soil. With Lyon and Gent surprisingly drawing 1-1 in its first duel, this remains wide open going into the second fixtures between these four teams on September 29.
