You have to go all the way back to 2004 to find the last time a French team made it to the Champions League Final. AS Monaco was the team to do it, and it was blanked by Porto in the quest for Ligue 1's first ever UCL winner. Now, Monaco is back in the semifinals and has a legitimate shot of reaching the Promised Land again, though a red hot Juventus team stands in its way.

Odds Analysis
Monaco has been defying odds in this edition of the Champions League all year long, but this might be the quest that is too hard to conquer. There's a reason why The Old Lady is the favorite to win the UCL at this point even though Juve will surely be an underdog in the finale against Real Madrid if that's what it comes to. But as for right now, Monaco is a dog at home and would have to defy the +205 odds just to take the edge in this home-and-home set going back to Italian soil.
Obviously any away goals here would be devastating to Monaco's chances, but we've seen this team battle through high-scoring tussles against the best in the world before and live to tell about it. This total of 2.5 could end up looking laughable even though the first legs of the semifinals in the Champions League are often very tight and gritty affairs.
How They Got Here
Of all of the teams to score three goals in all four knockout round matches of the Champions League… Monaco? The French teams aren't known for their great offense, but thus far, we've seen Radamel Falcao and the young phenom Kylian Mbappe really take over with their five goals apiece in this tournament. It all started for Monaco in Group E when it outlasted Bayer Leverkusen and Tottenham to get into the last 16, and from there, it dismissed Manchester City after a huge comeback here at home and followed that with a 6-3 comprehensive dismantling of Borussia Dortmund. The draws have been kind for sure, but Monaco has had to earn its way here.
Juventus could have said the same in the Round of 16 when it was drawn against Porto. The 3-0 victory was comprehensive, just as 14 points in six group stages matches turned out to be as well before it. Juve though, stepped on the gas pedal against Barcelona, winning 3-0 at home before turning around and putting on a smothering defensive show in the Catalan peninsula at the Nou Camp with a scoreless draw. This was the best case result for Juventus for this stage to avoid having to travel to Spain to take on either Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid for sure.

Two years ago, these two teams played to just one goal over 180 minutes of soccer in the Champions League quarterfinals. The one goal belonged to Arturo Vidal for Juve, and that turned out to be enough when the two teams returned to the Stade Louis II. We suspect that this one is going to be a little different.
Juventus has yet to be beaten in 10 Champions League games, and we think that record is going to stay intact here in Monaco. But don't kid yourself about how dangerous this French side is. Mbappe very likely is going to be transferred in the summer in what will be the highest transfer fee ever for a teenager, and he could end up putting on another show here against a world class side to keep this one right in the fire going back to Turin.
Champions League Odds: AS Monaco 1, Juventus 1
