You probably wouldn't think that Germany would have the youngest team in the Confederations Cup. Alas, Joachim Low, even with so many of the brightest stars in the game that he could have called up to bring to Russia, has elected to essentially use a slightly modified U-23 team in the Confederations Cup, and that might come back to bite him in the backside when his team takes on Australia in its first fixture of the tourney.
This Confederations Cup duel will go down Monday, June 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. ET at Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi. The match will be televised live on FOX Sports 1.

Odds Analysis
The oddsmakers have put a somewhat odd price on the board here of Germany -232. The Germans are -1.5 on the Asian Handicap and are truly expected to waltz in this one. That said, their roster, as we'll discuss in a moment, probably doesn't justify this much confidence.
The total of 2.5 with -155 vig on the over tells the tale of a number that might ultimately rise to a flat 3, something you probably won't see much, if any of over the course of the rest of this tourney.
Roster Analysis
What in the heck is Germany doing? The Germans have plenty of elite talent that could probably use some more grooming on the international stage. Instead, Low has elected to leave all of his top players behind in favor of younger players and those he wants to take an extended look at to see if they can fill some holes on the back end of the 2018 squad that comes back here to Russia for the World Cup.
As a result, what's left is a trio of strikers with a total of three goals between them, a trio of goalies with 15 caps between them, and a group of midfielders anchored by 23-year old captain, Julian Draxler, who might not even be good enough to suit up a year from now for this very same team.
Australia's roster has very little in the way of holes in it. Valencia keeper Matthew Ryan will be in the pipes, while a couple real veterans, Mark Milligan and Tim Cahill will probably provide the greatest offensive threats. There are some questions at the back for sure, but the Socceroos have really never bred all that many great defenders. Trent Sainsbury leads the defensemen with 24 caps and three goals, but that isn't saying a whole heck of a lot.
Recent Form
It's almost not even worth mentioning what Germany has done of late in matches since this squad looks nothing like the one that has been qualifying for the World Cup. Alas, Germany is fresh off of a 7-0 win over San Marino that came on the heels of a 1-1 draw in Brondby against Denmark.
Australia was pummeled in its last tune-up for the Confederations Cup, but in fairness, Brazil was always a team that was going to be out of its league. The 4-0 result though, came against a team that was far from complete for the Brazilians, and that will surely lend to the idea of this match being over the Socceroos' heads as well. The Aussies did beat Saudi Arabia in a crucial World Cup qualifying tilt at home prior to that by a 3-2 score line.

Be very, very careful, Germany! We could take the conservative way out and take the goal and a half on the Asian Handicap. But instead, we're going to go for the gusto and take that whopping +550 price on a team we feel is going to be live. You know that the mostly-Russian crowd is going to get behind the underdog, and if the Germans aren't careful, they're going to be in a mess of trouble early on in this tournament.
