The third match day of the Champions League group stage is usually the one where we see the teams at the top really separate themselves from the rest of the group. By the end of the day on Tuesday, we'll probably have a really good idea regarding at least three or four of the teams that will reach the last 16 at the start of the new calendar year.
These Champions League duels will go down Tuesday, October 17, with all of the kickoffs taking place at 2:45 p.m. ET. The Real Madrid/Tottenham match will be televised live on FOX Sports 1, while the Manchester City/Napoli affair can be seen on FOX Sports 2.
Champions League Opening Odds at BookMaker.eu
APOEL ( +1250 ) vs. Borussia Dortmund
Feyenoord ( +220 ) vs. Shakhtar Donetsk
Spartak Moscow ( +350 ) vs. Sevilla
Real Madrid ( -263 ) vs. Tottenham
Manchester City ( -163 ) vs. Napoli
AS Monaco ( -169 ) vs. Besiktas
RB Leipzig ( +115 ) vs. FC Porto
Maribor ( +1150 ) vs. Liverpool
It's always dangerous going out on the road in the Champions League, and Borussia Dortmund needs to be aware of that. APOEL shouldn't get a single point Group H, but this is probably its best shot to make at least a little bit of a noise. Both of these teams are left without a point in their first two matches, and if BVB is going to make a run at either Real Madrid or Tottenham, this is a match that must be won and must be won by a massive margin. Remember that Real and Spurs play against each other in a match running concurrently, so at best, BVB will be three points back of the losing team in that one come the end of the night on Tuesday.
Group G is surely the group that is most likely to turn on its head on Tuesday night. Besiktas and Porto are the table-toppers right now, but they're both underdogs against Monaco and RB Leipzig respectively. If the chalk holds up, Group G is going to feature four teams that all have at least three points in three matches, and that will make this the most competitive group of the bunch the rest of the way. However, if Besiktas or Porto can steal a result on the road against either of these other solid teams, their tickets to the next stage are one step closer to being punched.
Group F is probably going to be in the exact opposition position. Manchester City has been perfect in this group so far, taking six goals while not conceding in wins over Shakhtar Donetsk and Feyenoord. A home win over Napoli will put it six clear of safety with just three matches left to play. There's no way the Citizens would blow a spot in the last 16 from here.
Meanwhile, Feyenoord has its last shot to make any sort of impact in Group F. The Dutch side has yet to pick up a point in this group, and it really has to have all three against Shakhtar Donetsk at home on Tuesday night to stay in the group, especially with a goal differential that has already ballooned to -6.
Group E looks close at the surface, but we know that Liverpool and Sevilla are ultimately going to get through this foursome. The Reds have to travel to Slovenia to take on Maribor, but assuming that match is won, that would leave them on five points with three matches to go. Sevilla visits Spartak Moscow in a match that could effectively put the Spanish side in the last 16 as well.
