Soccer Odds - France vs. Portugal Match Preview

2016-Euro-2016-Final-France-Vs-Portugal-Betting-Odds

Euro 2016 has been a tournament chalk full of upsets, but when the dust has settled the finals have come to fruition, two of the team six teams from the outset of the tourney have reached the Promised Land. The host nation, France will get a chance to replicate its triumph the last time it hosted a major tournament when it won the World Cup in 1998 if it can knock off Portugal in the last match of Euro 2016.

ODDS ANALYSIS

France has to be the overwhelming favorite in this fixture. Les Bleus have been so darn good over the course of this whole tournament, and they are playing against a team which, up until the semifinals, looked relatively underwhelming in spite of its success.

Les Bleus are -110 moneyline favorites to win this match inside of 90 minutes, and they'll inevitably be at least 1 to 2 favorites to hoist the trophy at the Stade de France on Sunday night.

The total is low considering the fact that we're in a final, but we've seen lower across this tournament. The number to beat is a flat 2 with -115 vig on the under.

TOURNAMENT UPDATE

Both of these teams played like finalists in the semifinals.

France wasn't quite as dominant as a 2-0 victory over Germany suggests, but that margin of triumph was emphatic, and the result, especially considering the fact that the Germans hold the World Cup, was as good as the French have had in a major tournament since '98. Les Bleus now add Germany to a list which already included Ireland and Iceland of teams they've vanished from this tournament.

Portugal was a favorite against Wales, but it wouldn't have been all that surprising had it failed considering the fact that it's been favored in every match it has played here in the Euros and only has one win to show for its work. That win was well-timed though, as the match against Wales was definitely impressive at 2-0. Previously, A Seleccao had dismissed Poland and Croatia from the Euros.

LIVE BETTING

The real key for the French is going to be dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo. Sure, CR7 and the gang haven't run across a team anywhere near this good in the Euros yet, but France hasn't had to face a striker quite like this either.

Ronaldo played one of the best matches of his career when his team needed in the most against Wales, and if he comes up with yet another moment or two of brilliance as he had in the semifinals, live bettors need to be aware that an upset could very well be in the cards.

QUICK PICK

Still, we don't see it out of Portugal. This team might be the least-deserving finalist in a major tournament we've seen in quite some time, and we think it's all going to come to a crashing halt here against France. A Seleccao tend to fall apart when things start to go against them, and we think there's going to be a goal early in this one to set the tone for France.

The attacking options are just too good for the French to fail even if they do give up a goal in this one. Antoine Griezmann is sure to win the Golden Boot thanks to his six goals, two of which came in the semis against Germany, and Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet have had fantastic tournaments, too.

It's all just going to be too much at the back for the Portuguese to deal with. If Hungary was able to score three times against this squad back in the group stage, we're not sure what France is capable of. If that five-goal blitz against Iceland was any indication though, this final could turn ugly in a hurry.
