Soccer Odds - Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich Match Preview

2017-Soccer-Real-Madrid-vs.-Bayern-Munich-(FS1-2)-Betting-Odds

Real Madrid might have gone on and road and taken an advantage over Bayern Munich, but with as good as both of these sides are, there's nothing at all that says the Reds can't overturn that results when the two teams go back to the Bernabeu. Los Blancos though, will be assuming that this is going to be an easy jaunt into the semis from here with a 2-1 away lead in their ledger.

At 2:45 p.m. ET, tune into FOX Sports 1 for live television coverage of this Champions League match on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Odds Analysis

Bayern Munich knows that it needs goals in this fixture. One won't do in any respect, and two might not either. Arturo Vidal and the gang are going to have to push for at least a third to clinch the away goals race, and that means this match has to open up and do so in a hurry. The total of 3.5? That's why it's that high.

As far as the match itself, it's hard to say that Real Madrid shouldn't be the favorite. Do Los Blancos need to win this fixture? Of course they don't. A draw, or even a 1-0 loss is good enough to advance to the semis where at least one more team from Spain should be waiting ( Atletico Madrid, presumably ). But coming to the Bernabeu is no easy task for any team in the world, and that's why Real, even without its need to snare the victory in 90, is a +140 favorite.

The First Leg

Things started off well enough for Bayern Munich. Arturo Vidal scored 25 minutes into the match, and it looked like this was going to setup a cracker of rest of the night in Munich. Just before halftime though, Vidal blew a chance to double his ledger and double Bayern Munich's lead by taking a penalty – one that probably shouldn't have been awarded for a handball in the box – and blasting it over the bar to safety.

From there, it was the Cristiano Ronaldo show. There weren't a ton of moments where Real's No. 7 was present, but it only took two to flip this game on its head. Both goals he scored looked eerily similar. Both came from crosses on the flank and were one touch and into the back of the net quick as a whip.

Things could have been worse for Bayern, though. In the 61st minute, Javi Martinez was sent off for his second booking, and the Reds had to really hang on tight from there. CR7 did score his second with just 10 on the pitch, but Manuel Neuer did enough in net to at least keep the margin manageable on a day where things could have been horribly embarrassing.

Bayern Munich is going to have its shot on Tuesday night. For the most part, the Reds were at least every bit as good as Real Madrid before Martinez was sent off, and even after the team saw red, Bayern Munich still acquitted itself well. Is it going to be enough to ultimately snare the requisite goals to go through? Maybe. We still think that slowing down Real Madrid is going to be the big problem.

There could be some really, really nervy moments at the Santiago Bernabeu, though. We think Real Madrid will survive, but this match could be on a knife's edge throughout.

Champions League Odds: Real Madrid 2, Bayern Munich 2
